Hazel G. Banks-Wright

Hazel Godette Banks Wright, affectionately known as Dee Dee, was born January 30, 1947, 72 years old, to the late Henry Godette and Gracie Frazier Godette in Havelock, North Carolina where she graduated from Queens Street High School.

During High School, Hazel met and soon after married Charlie L. Banks,Jr. in North Carolina, now former Husband, and three children were born of their union. They shortly moved to Norfolk, Virginia where Hazel stories a 20 year career at GE services, operating telegraph machines.

Full of entrepreneurial spirit, Hazel also worked for the City of Norfolk ending with the title Behavioral Health Assistant. She enjoyed reaching out to her patients. Hazel employed herself 20 years strong with the City of Norfolk where she retired.

Hazel remained in Norfolk, Virginia to later marry Alton Wright, Sr. former Husband where she gained 3 stepchildren whom she adored. Hazel also was known for fostering children and loving her children’s friends whom became family to Hazel. She loved to cook, bake, she was a seamstress, a licensed beautician, and assisted anyone who needed help when she could.

Hazel joined the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness in 1971, where she attended faithfully. Hazel was baptized July 15, 1972.  There she served as an auxiliary pioneer and fellowship with her spiritual brothers and sisters until her health would no longer allow her to do so. Her last auxiliary was in 2018 for the months of March, April, and May for 3 months straight. She served her last “talk” to her Congregation of the Kingdom Hall, on February 14, 2019, which showed her deteriorating health.

Even determined, it became difficult for Hazel to do her favorite things. She hung on as long as she could, until she finally succumbed to her disease of Diabetes late afternoon on February 15, 2019.

Hazel ascends to cherish her memory, siblings Thurman, William, and Johnny Godette , Christina, Esther, and Teresa. Hazel ascends her
former Husband, Charlie L. Banks, Jr., 3 daughters, Millicent Spencer(Tommy Spencer-deceased), Felicia Watkins, and Carrol Walker (Darryl Walker), all of Norfolk, Virginia. She leaves, former Husband, Alton Wright, SR, and 3 stepchildren,  Chowan, Alton JR, and Derrick, all of Norfolk, Virginia. Hazel cherished her 9 grandchildren, Brittany L. Banks (Eboni), Christoper Banks, Maurice Watkins JR, (Ashli), Melvin K. Banks, Tammy Spencer, Tommy Spencer, JR, Tyra Hazel Banks, and Lewis G. Banks,  which gave her 17 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, that extends all across the country.

    My thoughts and prayers to your family. She will be missed. One thing that I will never forget is her laugh and smile and going over her house while my mom got her hair done. We had fun being kids, running around and she didn’t mind. I will continue to keep your family in my prayers.     We are so sorry to hear about Hazel. Love her like Reese’s pieces. She was so loved by many.I will miss her beautiful smile and listening to her jokes. Can’t wait to see her again when Jehovah restore the earth to a paradise.

    I was very saddened to hear that Hazel had passed. As long as I can remember even as a youngster she kept people smiling and laughing. We will miss her. But we will see her again .

    To Hazel’s daughters and family. You have my deepest condolences and sympathy. Hazel and I were good friends and Spiritual sisters. We met as young ladies and grew older together. I will miss her, always love her, and will see her again in the resurrection.
