On Thursday, May 14, 2020, the Lord called home one of His precious Angels, Harriette Linnette Parham. She was born to the late Melvin Lamb and Sarah Linnette Lamb on July 10, 1936, in Norfolk, Virginia.
Harriette was educated in the Norfolk Public School system and was a 1954 graduate of Booker T Washington High School. It was at Booker T Washington High School, where Harriette met her lifelong soul mate, partner in life, her beloved husband, Howard V Parham Sr.
After graduation, Harriette attended Norfolk State University, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and her Master’s Degree from Old Dominion University. Harriette followed her mother’s and Aunt’s footsteps to become an educator with Norfolk Public Schools. Harriette taught at many local schools to include – Diggs Park, Lindenwood, Saint Helena and Granby Elementary Schools. Harriette inspired and touched many young lives as a Teacher and Reading Specialist within the Norfolk Public School system for over 30 years.
Harriette married her high school sweetheart, Howard V. Parham Sr. on December 6, 1958. Howard and Harriette shared a life together for over 60 years. Their union brought forth three beautiful children, Howard Jr. (deceased), LaVonna, and Heith.
Harriette was a dedicated member of First United Presbyterian Church under the leadership of Pastor Veronica Thomas. She truly enjoyed her church and loved to provide donations for the various activities and functions.
She enjoyed taking pictures, spending time with her family, cooking, gardening and teaching. In her spare time, Harriette enjoyed spending most of her time gardening, and she took great pride in her flowers. It takes patience and perseverance and a love for living things to grow a garden or a beautiful flower. There is a beauty and a satisfaction in seeing the result of our labor grow and come to fruition. There is a peacefulness that can come over us as we care for and nurture the flowers and plants in a garden. In nurturing living things and helping to bring beauty and peace to the world, gardeners make a difference in the world and make their lives and the lives of those who see their gardens richer and fuller. Harriette touched the lives of many people with her smile, generosity, and compassionate spirit.
Harriette leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Howard Parham Sr, daughter LaVonna Donald (Robert) of Chesapeake, VA, and son Heith Parham of Norfolk, VA; grandchildren Keire Parham, Howard Parham III, Julian Parham, Jameela Parham and Karis Donald and a great grandson Amir Jovanta Parham-Oliver.
Your life was a Blessing
Your memory a Treasure
You are loved beyond Words
And missed beyond Measure
