On Friday, April 22, 2022, our all-wise God, called home our precious mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, cousin and friend, Gwendolyn Marie Armstrong Sharp to rest from her labor and to receive her heavenly wings.
Gwendolyn was born on February 7, 1941 to the late Lillian Bernice “Nanny” Ballard in Elm City, North Carolina. She was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System and graduated from I. C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth, VA. It was there that she met and married the late Lesley Sharp, Jr.
Gwendolyn was employed as a Mental Health Care Aide at Western Tidewater Community Services Board and retired after 20 years of faithful and dedicated service.
She was a very loving and compassionate woman of faith. She not only talked about the Word of God — she lived her life according to it! Gwendolyn had such a joyful and friendly spirit. She was the kind of person that everyone wanted to be around—especially when sharing a laugh; which was very contagious. She not only loved her family, but she had the capacity to love and to make anyone who entered her life feel welcomed.
She was predeceased by one son, Terrance Sharp and one brother, Michael Armstrong.
Gwendolyn leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy, six children, Tyrone Sharp of Portsmouth, VA, Sharon Harper of Chesapeake, VA, Darryl Sharp of Dumfries, VA, Reginald Sharp (Autavia) of Tulsa, OK, Tracy Sharp-Marion of Junction City, KS and Daniel Sharp of Portsmouth, VA; three sisters, Renea Ballard, Valencia Ballard and Valerie Ballard Epps (Terry); thirteen grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her!

April 27, 2022 at 8:49 amWhen I heard the news of Ms. Gwen passing it really hurt me. Ms. Gwen was the sweetest person I have ever met. She and I worked together at Western Tidewaters CSB for many years. I will miss her so much. She was a gentle soul. I loved how she loved our individuals she was so nurturing to them, and Staff. Ms. Gwen, you are no longer in pain you can now rest in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I love you and now Rest In Paradise.
