Mrs. Gwendolyn McDavid was born October 14, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Mr. Calvin Pruitt Sr. and Mrs. Eva C. Pruitt. She was the second daughter of six children
Mrs. Gwendolyn McDavid led a very successful life. She graduated from Glenville High School where she excelled in her studies. She received her formal education at Cuyahoga Community College where she took real estate courses. She went on to own several properties because of her success. Her first official place of employment was working for her Uncle Rev. William Jones at his furniture store in Cleveland, Ohio, she then took a position alongside her mother at May Company Department Store. She later worked at Cleveland City Hall, in Community Relations.
One of Gwendolyn’s greatest accomplishments includes being the best mother she could possibly be. She continuously sacrificed and provided for her son for as long as she could. As a person of good faith, she made sure everyone was taken care of in her family; she even adopted her nephew, Gregory Pruitt Jr., who she loved dearly. She was a significant part of the family dynamic and was instrumental in keeping the family together.
She was united in holy matrimony with Larry Eugene Simpson Sr. in 1970. To this union one child was born: Larry Eugene Simpson Jr. Later in life she married her second husband the late Weldon McDavid Sr.
Gwendolyn loved her family dearly, especially her nieces whom she adored. She loved to spend time with her son and her nephews, go shopping with her nieces, cook for her loved ones, travel, and she liked to listen to music.
She transitioned from this life on March 11, 2022, at 2:52 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Health and Rehab Center. She was truly loved by all who knew her in life and will be deeply missed and cherished. Gwendolyn was a devoted follower of Christ and she is now living her eternal life alongside her savior.
She leaves to cherish and mourn her loving memory, one son, Larry E. Simpson Jr.- U.S. Navy(RET),her Uncle, Rev. William Jones of Union Springs, Ala., her cousin Ethel Johnson, her nieces and nephews: Markeisha Cobbs, Sakina Pruitt, Tonya Pruitt, Gregory Pruitt Jr., and Cecil Glenn Pruitt, two granddaughters, Gabrielle and Nadia Simpson, and a host of loving family, and friends. She goes on to join her siblings and parents in eternal life; Calvin Jr., Cecil, JoAnn, Rudy, Gregory, and her parents Mrs. Eva and Mr. Calvin Pruitt Sr.
