Gwendolyn affectionately known to family and friends as “Gwenny” was born to William Edward Williams and Penelope Butts on January 31,1953. On Monday September 2 7, 2021, Gwenny was called home to eternal rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Gwenny accepted Christ as her Savior and spent the better part of her life serving on several ministries at her families’ Church, Tabernacle of Prayer for All People. Gwenny will mostly be remembered by her giving spirit. Gwenny would always buy 2 of everything so that she would always have enough to share with all her grandchildren, friends, family, and church members. Gwenny worked as a companion’s aide, worked in maintenance for Oakmont North Apartments, and an employee of Norfolk Public Schools’ Distribution Center, known as “Central Kitchen”; where she was very happy to go to work there every day.
On March 7, 1997, Gwen, and Elisha (Sunny) were united in holy matrimony. Gwenny and Sunny were 2 peas in a pod, when you saw one, you’d see the other. They became best friends and partners in life. Gwenny was a blessing to everyone she met. Her famous saying was “keep a smile on your face and be kind to everyone”. She would tell all her grandchildren before leaving out of the door for school. Gwen’s smile was comforting and will be missed. She would always put the needs of others before her own.
She was predeceased by Her husband Elisha C. Willie Jr. and grandson Marquise D. Williams.
Gwenny leaves to cherish her memory, a loving sister Paulette Butts; Geraldine Elliott (sister in Christ), a loving Nephew; Marion Williams “Barry”, Niece Jackie Cary (Antwan); two daughters Rena Williams (Kevin Bland), and Sherena S. Goodman (Brian K. Goodman); Grandchildren, Stanley L. Williams ( Sonora Cobb); Taysha L. Hite-Shaw; Tiffany M. Williams; Tarion D. Williams; Kayla A. Bland; Aaliyah Scott; Vernon Scott; Brian K.
