Gregory G. Parker, Sr.

Sunrise: February 27, 1965

Sunset: January 20, 2024

Gregory (Greg) Gerard Parker Sr., 58, of Chesapeake, VA. passed peacefully into eternal rest on January 20, 2024. Greg was the son of George Parker Jr. (deceased) and Gladys Washington.  He grew up in the Norview area of Norfolk and Cavalier Manor, Portsmouth and attended both Manor HS and Indian River HS.  In 1983, he enlisted into the United States Army and served as a military police officer at Fort Hood, Texas until 1987.  After an honorable release from active duty, he was employed by the Ford Motor Company as a security officer until 1995.  In 2004, he founded Parker’s Lawn Service and eventually became a longshoreman for the International Longshoreman Association (ILA) Local 1248.  Greg excelled as a longshoreman, qualifying as a Strad/Shuttle Truck Operator for Dock Gang 36.  He served as President of the ILA Van Club and retired in December 2023.

Greg is survived by his loving wife Amoge Parker, his four sons, Javon Parker (Nicole), Devon Parker (Shevonne), Gregory Parker Jr., and Grayson Parker; his four daughters, Pia Parker, Jeslyn Parker Janelle Parker, and Jaylen Parker; his seven grandchildren, Mother Gladys Washington; and his siblings, George Parker III (Tonya), Gretchen Cannida (Cleveland), Javonne Washington (Andre) and Lakisha McClease (Deonte).  Greg’s unique energy was kindness, loving life and living it to the fullest.  He was a formidable chess player who loved cooking, fishing, and above all loved God. He was the epitome of generosity who gave without hesitation, a man of integrity who was passionate, a fierce defender of his loved ones, and the definition of a man who could face adversity and moonwalk through a field of landmines. Greg will always be in the hearts of many and will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
