Goldie Marie Smith Mock was born on April 23,1941 in Southampton County, VA to Walter and Carrie Seaborn Smith. Goldie was the youngest of a family of 9 children, Thomas, Mary, Johnnie, Earline, Nick, Walter, Samuel, and Mildred. She was predeceased by all 8 siblings and a son Kevin Smith who faithfully cared for her until his death.
At a young age, Goldie and her parents moved to South Hill, a community in Norfolk County, now known as Chesapeake. After the death of her mother, Goldie and her oldest son, Trent, moved to Jamaica, (Queens), New York and resided with her sister
Mary “Bea “ Goodie and her 2 sons, Danny, and Tommy.
While in New York Goldie married Johnnie Mock. After several years residing in New York, Goldie relocated back to Virginia to care for her aging father until his death.
Goldie was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of South Hill. She took part in many of the fundraisers that was held at the church. Goldie loved activities such as fishing, sewing, jewelry making and crocheting blankets that was admired by many. She often talked about she loves her rides in limousines celebrating her birthdays. She also treasured her cruise to the Bahamas which she called the “The Love Boat”. She just enjoyed life.
She leaves to cherish her memories, 2 sons Trent Smith (Peggy), Johnny Mock, eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and many other relatives and friends.
Goldie’s beautiful smile will forever endure in our hearts. She had a captivating smile that we will never forget.
