Glenn David Martin, Sr. was born July 16, 1958 in Staten Island New York. He was the youngest of seven children to John H. Martin Sr. of Edenton, North Carolina and Anna M. Richardson of Petersburg, Virginia. Upon graduation from high school, Glenn met and married his first wife Ella Vaught. Their union was blessed with three beautiful daughters. He joined the Navy as a Boiler Technician, which led to his engineering career with the Department of Defense. While in the Navy, he was stationed on the USS America (CV 66), home-ported in Norfolk, Virginia. Norfolk became his home and where he met his second wife, Ella Chavis of Portsmouth, Virginia. Their union blessed him with not only a son but a step-daughter as well. Later in his life, Glenn met and married his third wife, Monique Palmer Reese of Norfolk, Virginia; there they continued to live as he prepared for his retirement of thirty-seven years from DoD. Although they did not have any children together, they embraced each others as their own. He was a step-father and a mentor to the her two children as well.
Glenn was a lover of life, his family, children (all of whom just naturally gravitated towards him) and football (especially his home team New York Giants). He had a way of connecting with and entertaining everyone who crossed his path. Glenn also had a way of making all those connected to him smile, whether it be in conversation, jokes, or a song. He would never let anyone be in his presence with a frown. He carried a smile that was larger than life! Most importantly, he was a lover of God! He gave his life to the Lord at an early age while attending The First Church of God in Christ. Glenn would always give his testimony, share his faith, and give God glory for the miracles that were bestowed upon him.
Glenn was truly a walking miracle!
He was preceded in death by his father, John H. Martin, Sr., his mother Anna M. Martin and his sisters, Augusta Martin and Laverne Jordan.
He leaves behind his wife, Monique Martin, his daughters, Nicole Herron, Erica Atkins (Charles) and Alexandria (Lexi) Martin; his son, Glenn D. Martin Jr. (Taylaysha Hooper-Martin); step-son, Billy Reese, Jr. (Elena Valeeva); step-daughters, Chablis Reese and Latonya Jenkins; two sisters, Faith Pedro and Constance (Cookie) Henry of Staten Island, New York; two brothers, Eugene Martin of Cincinnati, Ohio and John H. Martin, Jr. of Staten Island, New York; seventeen grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews.
