Gladys Y. Chapman

Sunrise: July 26, 1949

Sunset: January 11, 2020

Gladys Yvonne Chapman, “Puddin”, returned home to her Lord and Savior on January 11, 2020 at the age of 70 with her daughter Felicia by her side.  She was born on July 26, 1949 in Portsmouth,Va to the late Robert and Odell Geter Shelton. Her sisters, Patricia Snead and Mildred Moore, brother Leroy Moore, preceded Gladys in death.  She graduated from historic Norcom High School in Portsmouth and attended Tidewater Community College. Gladys worked as an environmental contractor for many years before retiring.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children son, Yusuf AlQuran (Joe-Joe), daughter Felicia Shelton, granddaughter Maryam AlQuran, sister Ruth Baines, nieces Brenda McCall, Terri Moore, Mary Snead, special beloved friend Irene Wilson and a host of extended family and friends whom she cherished deeply.

Gladys’s contribution to the world is to remind us all to be ever-faithful and to remember to call on God during the good times and the bad.  She passed on to her children the love of education, old-school “home training”, and the belief that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to, but don’t forget God’s mercy.  We are content and at peace thinking of our loved ones, knowing that as long as we remember them that they are never really gone from us.

The last time we talked we went down memory lane and it was a delight. We laughed about the good old days with the family and it was like time stood still. May You Forever Rest In Peace.
