Gerry U. Self

Sunrise: June 15, 1964

Sunset: July 5, 2021

Gerry Self passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 5, 2021.  He was 57 years old. Gerry was born June 15, 1964, in Norfolk, VA.  He was the last of eight children and enjoyed and took full advantage of being the baby of the family.  He was full of life and enjoyed having a good time with his family and friends especially his nieces and nephews. If there was one thing that Gerry wouldn’t miss, was an opportunity to spend time with family and share laughs.

Gerry graduated in June 1982 from Bayside High School in Virginia Beach and found that he could fit in just about anywhere working many trades throughout his life which took him all over the country.  He was employed as an Operational Driver with The Andersons, Inc.

Gerry was preceded in death by his father, James Self and his brother Michael Self.  He is survived by his mother, Frances Self, siblings, Wayne Self (Peaches), Jeffrey Self, Jacqueline Royster, Reginald Self (Mae), Michelle Brooks (Terry) and Terry Self (Deborah); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and two devoted friends Robert Smith and Tameka.

Gerry will be sorrowfully missed, but he will never be forgotten, and one day, we pray to see him again.

Words fail express the sorrow I feel for this loss to the Self family. Having known Gerry since we were all kids running around on 29th Street, it is difficult, but I thank God for the privilege of seeing him and sharing a laugh or two the couple days prior to his departure. I am truly keeping you all in my prayers.
