Geraldine Cochran

Sunrise: June 11, 1955

Sunset: March 4, 2024

Our beloved Geraldine Cochran has been called home. Geraldine departed this life on March 4, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 11, 1955 to the late William McKinley and Bessie Mae Cox. She was a resident of Norfolk, Virginia.

Geraldine, also affectionately known as “Leeny” and “Lena” was educated in the Norfolk Public School system. After leaving school, she worked in the restaurant industry in various capacities for the United States Public Health Service Hospital, the Army Corp of Engineers, the Business Opportunity for the Blind and the Joint Chief of Staff United States Department of Defense Building in Suffolk, Virginia.

Geraldine joined Holy Jerusalem Church of God in Christ in Norfolk, Virginia at an early age. This is where she began growing closer to God. She was very fond of Elder Queenie Barton at this church, so much that she spoke of her weeks before her passing. She later joined First Baptist Lamberts Point in Norfolk, Virginia.

Geraldine was well known in the Norfolk community for her cooking and lending a helping hand to others. Her yock and chicken wings were most desired. Lena also loved shopping; any store was fine with her. Have you ever seen anyone spend over $60 in the Dollar Tree? That was very easy for her. When asked to describe Aunt Leeny, the follow words were stated: Kind-hearted, giving, humble, patient, kind and one of a kind. Along with having all those virtuous qualities, Geraldine was a mother who went above and beyond for her children. She was a phenomenal woman indeed.

Geraldine was predeceased by her parents, William McKinley and Bessie Mae Cox, her husband, Willie Cochran II, her son, Rodney L. Cochran, her brother, Milton Lee Cox and an exceptionally special friend, Rodney Lawrence. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Schvonda Cochran and Willie Cochran III (Sabrina), grandchildren: Veronica Mayfield, Willie Cochran IIII, and Zakyah Cochran, great-grandchildren: Mila Mayfield and A’Marie Cochran, two sisters: Mollie Cox Baynes (Benjamin) and Mary Cox Wiggins (Earkard), three brothers: William Cox Jr., (Juanita), Jerry Cox (Monica), and David Cox, and a multitude of other relatives and friends who loved her dearly. Geraldine’s bubbly personality and positive encouragement to others will be greatly missed. Let us all find comfort in knowing we will see her again.
