Gerald Lee Savage

Sunrise: June 24, 1949

Sunset: September 21, 2022

On September 21, 2022, Gerald Lee Savage entered eternal rest and was welcomed into the loving arms of God. Gerald was the son of the late Henry C. Savage and Vedes Virginia Clark. Left to cherish his memory; his wife of 52 years, Lillie Savage; his daughters, Stephanie Savage-Little and Serena Savage-Vaughan; his son, Jerome Savage; eleven grandchildren, Claude Savage, Natasha Savage, Selina Little, Sher-Ron Little, Shania Little, Azariah Vaughan, Aysha Vaughan, Alijah Vaughan, TiAira Savage, Trey Savage, Jacob Savage; seven great grandchildren, Ahriah, Charlie, Jayden, Elaina, Jeremiah, and Steffaniq; two sisters, Patricia Grier and Gaynell Fountain, and a host of in-laws, nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces. Gerald completed one tour of service in Vietnam and received the following medals: Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Army Commendation Medal w/”V” Device, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, and an Air Medal. Upon his completion of service with the United States Army, Gerald worked as a supervisor and quickly elevated to a general foreman at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he worked for 30 years until he retired. Retirement did not set well with him; therefore, he tried a variety of jobs including driving for the Hampton Roads Transportation System. Finally, he found his way into the hearts and minds of the faculty, staff, and students at St. Patrick’s Catholic School whereby he worked for the last 5 years of his life. He spoke highly of the administrative staff, teachers and students, and enjoyed going to work daily even when he was sick. Gerald enjoyed lengthy conversations about any and everything from day-to-day events, politics, and sports. People would often say that he missed his true calling as an attorney or a debater. He laminated and kept newspaper articles as far back as the 1970”s. He was very interested and informed of world events. Gerald’s tenacity, hard work, and perseverance is a legacy that will live on forever in his children, grandchildren, and beyond. He will be remembered and missed by all that knew and loved him. He is predeceased by his father, Henry Savage, his mother, Vedes Clark and his brother, Henry Savage, Jr.
