Mr. George Washington Blanchard, Sr., was born on December 25, 1940, to the late James and Virginia Blanchard. George transitioned peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Now free from any pain and suffering he endured during his final days, he is now reunited with his son, George Jr., and with his predeceased siblings and loved ones whom he cared for deeply.
George was born in Norfolk County, now Chesapeake, Virginia in his beloved neighborhood Butts Station, where he was one of fourteen children. Here, he established some of his best memories with his family and friends that he so happily spoke about every opportunity he could. Known to many in the neighborhood as “Georgey-Man”, he fully enjoyed life. With a smile that lit up a room, he made sure his presence was known by all who knew him, usually without having to say much at all. Butts Station is also where he was also introduced to Gina Brown, who would later become his wife.
George Sr. received his education within the Norfolk County (now Chesapeake City) Public School system. He embraced his walk with Christ early in life with joy and passion, being baptized at St. Luke A.M.E. Church, where he was a member for many years. Later, he joined Cornerstone Christian Center, a church founded by his younger brother, Dr. Michael A. Blanchard, in May of 1992. At Corner Stone, he served faithfully as Head Deacon. His dedication to the ministry was unwavering; he was known for his commitment to any task, from driving the church van and serving as a trustee member to ensuring the church was opened and closed on time. Deacon Blanchard’s presence and dedication were deeply felt by all who knew him until his final days.
George Sr. worked at Chesapeake Hardwood Products, Inc., where he spent 38 years as a Utility Specialist and President of the Union. He worked there until the plant closed in 2008, and he then went to enjoy his retirement. He was a true staple at his job and was loved and respected by all who worked there, as he truly enjoyed driving around on his forklift, making sure everyone had exactly what they needed.
George Sr. was predeceased by his son George Jr. and nine siblings. He leaves to cherish his fond memories: his beloved wife of 27 years, Gina Blanchard; son, Gary Blanchard (Patricia); son, Antonio Blanchard; son, Maurice Blanchard (Brenda); daughter, Subrina Blanchard-Bennettt (Mike); daughter, Matika Phillips (Linwood); son, Robert Darnell Parker (Ashley); daughter, Shanquay Parker; four bonus children; Ricky Jackson- Blanchard, Sheila Jackson, Chanda Parker, Jason Parker; two sisters, Sheldia Diane Bell and Bonnie Godfrey; two brothers, Norman Blanchard (Gloria) and Michael Blanchard, Sr. (Adrienne); twenty three grandchildren of which two are deceased; twenty nine great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
George Sr. was an avid and devoted Dallas Cowboys and Oscar Smith High School Tigers football fan, a great husband, father, uncle, cousin, brother, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his love of time spent with his lifelong friends, spending as much time as he could with his children and his grandchildren, connecting with his large family, and especially spending time with his wife, Gina. Though we will miss his physical presence, with his caring, cool, straightforward, and quick-witted personality, the essence of who he truly was will remain with us for eternity.

June 22, 2025 at 4:03 pmGina,
I recently had an opportunity to sit and talk with George it was nice sharing back yard conversation with him as we spoke of you. In thinking of the loss of your husband, I want to remind you of the thought that earth has no sorry that heaven can not heal. I hope that you take comfort in knowing that your loved one is in the loving care of our God right now. May the peace of our Lord rest within your spirit as you endure this difficult loss of love.
Your Cousin,

June 23, 2025 at 6:21 pmMy heartfelt sympathy is extended to the family of Deacon George Blanchard . George was a faithful member of Corner Stone Christian Center and a viable person In the community. . He suported many families in the support of the passing of their love one.No matter how he felt, when asked to complete a task in church his response would be,” I will take care of it” Most importantly he was a man of God…Sadly submitted
