George L. Smith, Sr.

Mr. George Lee Smith was born on November 21, 1937 in Murfreesboro, North Carolina to the late Mr. Earnest George Smith and Sallie Smith. George’s family later relocated to Portsmouth, VA. He was educated in the Virginia school system. He attended Norcom High School in Portsmouth Virginia. He was employed at Dons Sprinkler Service until retirement.

After retirement he enjoyed walking, meeting and greeting his friends, preparing his meals and watching TV. As
George’s health began to fail him, he moved to Rochester, New York with his children. George departed this life on April 23, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earnest George Smith and mother, Sallie Sallie Smith; one sister, Barbara Jean Smith.

George leaves to cherish his memories for four children, Joyce Smith(Patrick Cathey), George Lee Smith, Jr., Brenda Smith and Carlos Nowlin; one sister, Ms. Clara Futrell; one brother, Mr. Robert L. Smith (Delois), nineteen grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

    We are so sorry for your loss. The death of a love one can be extremely difficult to cope with. Many have found comfort in the promise found there at Acts 24:15. There it speaks about the Resurrection. Do draw comfort in the promise found there and please know you and your family will be in our prayers…MaryAnn…
