George Lee Ramsey

Sunrise: July 2, 1953

Sunset: May 28, 2024

On May 28th, 2024 our father called home our beloved George Lee Ramsey born July 2, 1953 to Rena Lucille Mullen; He passed away peacefully in his Portsmouth, Virginia home.

He was born and raised in Portsmouth where he spent most of his life working on cars. You can bet if it’s a car running in Portsmouth he had his hands on it back in the day. To know George you have to know a few things. First, when you saw George you saw Dorothea and when you saw Dorothea you saw George they were inseparable. They enjoyed 50 years together. They were basically attached at the hip and happily in love. Secondly,, you must know being around George you were in for a good laugh no matter the occasion. He was known to crack a joke at any given moment with the intention to bring joy and happiness. George was greatly loved, respected and appreciated by those he came in contact with. Third, George was a family man and everyone in the Brighton community was family, young or old. Once he met you, you were apart of his family. If you were really in deep with George he would not hesitate to give you a nickname. Lastly, his favorite past times was spending time with his family at gathering where he could bust out his favorite dance moves and cheering for his favorite team the Washington Redskins.

I was sadden to hear about Mr. George. I have fond memories of his laughter and kindness as a kid growing up next to the family on Summit Ave. He was our neighborhood watchman. He saw everything while he was under those hoods working on cars. My prayers are with you. Rest Mr. George. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”-2 Timothy 4:7-8
