George J. Parker

Sunrise: August 10, 1950

Sunset: March 1, 2023

George J. Parker departed this life on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, after a valiant fight with kidney disease.  He was born in Chesapeake, Virginia on August 10, 1950 to Arcelius J. Parker, Jr. and Sarah L. Parker.

To know George was to love him. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Norfolk State University Spartan Legion Band. He loved to engage in trash talking about sports and all things Cowboys. He also enjoyed listening to Norfolk State University football games on the radio when it physically became too difficult for him to attend the games.

George was the rock of the family. He was a loving, loyal, supportive, dependable, trustworthy father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His life’s passion was taking care of his family. Most of all, he was fiercely devoted to his children and grandchildren.

To carry on his legacy, George leaves behind a host of family and friends to treasure his memory to include his children: Michelle D., Lavette R. and Michael E. Hill, all of Chesapeake; his grandchildren Marcus T. Simon of Norfolk, and Marquis O. Kimble of Chesapeake; brother, Jerry L. Parker of Portsmouth; sister, Shirley Burton of Suffolk; an aunt Emily Hurdle of Portsmouth; and an uncle Liburn T. Hurdle, Sr. of Suffolk; along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Sarah; and father, Arcelius; sisters Evelyn, Mildred, Barbara, Carolyn and brothers, Eugene and Arcelius, III.

George J. Parker will truly be missed. Although his Circle of Life has ended on earth, he has begun a new life, and will be that angel watching over us.

George with his photographic memory could tell you . George, Gene, and Jerry were like older brothers. When George was in the band at Carver High School, I could always pick him out . For he was the gentle giant that played the Tuba! God bless you , and rest my friend .

    To the Hill/Parker family,
Please accept my sincerest condolences for the loss of Mr. George.
While I met him a few times in-person, I feel like I knew him well. I always enjoyed our funny phone talks about Michelle and the kids as well as our daily and weekly “funnies” that he got a chance to hear. His response and feedback was always hilarious.

I also enjoyed all the stories he shared as well as the laughs I gained. It was a pleasure getting to know him over the years. Through his spirit of kindness and “Georgeisms,” I will continue to Live, Laugh, and Love.
Mr. George, I have no doubt that in time your family will be fine and you will continue to be On Watch. You’ve earned your peaceful and eternal good nights sleep without interruption. So, You Rest Well…My Good and Faithful Servant and Friend.

George and I were in the band together at George Washington Carver. We also graduated from Carver as the last graduating class. He was such a wonderful, sweet guy. Well, George, God gave you your wings and said come on home. Work well done, thy good and faitful servant. One day, we will meet again. My prayers go out to the family.
