Gary Kindred

Sunrise: December 2, 1956

Sunset: February 7, 2019

On Thursday, February 7, 2019 God called for our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to come home.  Gary was a good and faithful servant. He obediently reached out his hand to touch the Master’s hand, and transitioned to his final resting place. Gary had a big spirit and a big personality.  He was always full of joy and laughter.

Gary Kindred was born December 2, 1956, the youngest child to the late Willie Jr. and Clara Kindred.  He had a devout faith in God and he accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Suffolk.  Gary attended Suffolk Public Schools and graduated from Forest Glen High school.  After High School he joined the United Stated Army and then the Army reserves. He was united in Holy matrimony to Charline Copeland for 24 years.  Together they have three children.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather.  Gary drove trucks for over 25 years and was employed by Evan’s Pit Stop in Chesapeake, VA.

There were many wonderful aspects to Gary, and he touched our lives in so many ways. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and a great friend. Gary loved his family and enjoyed traveling.  He made it a priority to vacation and have many family outings every year.  He always enjoyed playing with their grandchildren.  Gary was a carpenter and was very talented with home improvements. He was always willing to help you in any way he could.  He was a friendly face where ever he went, whether in town or in the yard of his house, or by the side of the road. Gary was not a selfish person, but instead lived his life reaching out to others, using his God-given abilities and talents to brighten their days and lighten their loads.

In all these ways and more, Gary made our lives richer and fuller. Now that he has passed away, there is emptiness and pain, confusion and maybe even anger at death coming to a man of only 62 years.  But in many ways, the gift of Gary’s life is still here with us. He lives on in our memories and stories, and in his children and grandchildren.

Gary will be affectionately remembered by his loving wife Charlene, two sons: Vashaun (Aimee), Ahmad Devon of Norfolk, and one daughter Celara Lillian.  Four grandchildren: Ayania, Jayceon, Devontae, and Amaya; two brothers, Larry Kindred (Allison), William Kindred (deceased); two sisters, Valerie Knight (Kevin, Sr.) Alice Justice (deceased); a sister-in-law, Gloria Kindred of Paterson; seven aunts: Annie Kindred, Mae Bullock, Ethel Copeland, Catherine Demiel, Carrie Gerena (George), Archie Lyons (George), and Beulah Bailey. Gary will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends.

Gary will live on in our memories, and stories, and in what all of us have become because of him.
