Gail Blackmon was a child of God, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, an aunt, a cousin, a friend, a generous giver, and a prayer warrior for the Lord. On February 28, 1957, in Americus, Georgia, she was welcomed into the world by Lynn and Ludy Bell Monts. Gail was one of thirteen children.
As a native of Gifford, FL, she attended the public schools of Indian River County and graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1975. In 1984, Gail answered the call to serve in the United States Navy as a Radioman. She reached the rank of Second Class Petty Officer and had a natural ability to lead her peers. While stationed in Norfolk, VA, she met the love of her life, Derrick Blackmon, who was also a Radioman in the Navy. In 1985, they united in holy matrimony. In 1991, she separated from the Navy after seven years of service and continued to support her husband’s naval career of twenty-one years. Together, they were stationed in Iceland and moved back to Norfolk, Virginia, for his final duty station. Virginia was their permanent place of residence after his retirement in 1993. Shortly after, Gail worked for the United States Postal Service and has been a postal clerk for 31 years. She was beloved by many co-workers and customers for her expertise, kindness, sense of humor, and most importantly, her love for the Lord.
At an early age, Gail accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, was baptized, and filled with the Holy Spirit. In 1993, she called Calvary Revival Church home and faithfully served in various ministries as a member for 32 years. She served as a teacher in Christian Education, an usher, a greeter, and volunteered for the packing ministry. In addition, she served the community as a Blood Donor Ambassador for the American Red Cross.
Gail had a passion for reading the Word of God and enjoyed encouraging others through prayer and scripture. She also loved to cook and host gatherings at her home. She had a true talent for interior home decorating and fashion. Her love for shopping was evident as she found the perfect accessories to make any outfit “pop.”
On Saturday afternoon, June 21, 2025, Gail peacefully transitioned from her residence into the arms of the Lord. Her memory will remain in the lives of those deeply touched and inspired.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Lynn and Ludy Bell Monts; her husband, Derrick Blackmon; sisters Regina Monts, Lorraine Monts, and Eva Glover; her brothers Lewis Dawson, James Dawson, Scottie Monts, and Virgil Monts.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Dante Reese and Tianna Blackmon; grandchildren, Keymari and Amara Reese; brothers, Reese (Nettie) Dawson, Willie (Delois) Monts and Amos (Tammy) Monts; sisters Mary Ann Jordan and Edith Buckner; sisters-in-law Sylvia Dawson and Michelle (Rickie) Sibley; brothers-in-law Walter Glover and Tyrone (Tiffany) Blackmon; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and her beloved CRC family.

July 7, 2025 at 2:48 pmI want to extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of Auntie Gail Blackmon. Although I didn’t know her closely, the times I did have the chance to speak with her, she was kind and carried herself with grace. I know how much she meant to Uncle Derrick and to those who loved her. Losing a loved one is never easy, and my thoughts and prayers are with the Blackmon and Monts family during this time. May God bring comfort, strength, and peace to each of you in the days ahead. Rest well, Auntie Gail.

July 8, 2025 at 11:36 pmMy prayers and heartfelt condolences are extended Gail’s family I met her at Jolliff Post Office in the early 90’s. I was a carrier and she was a clerk. We would have some intense conversations about being a Christian and loving the Lord. She would talk about God with anyone! I remember her throwing packages and humming, with her apron pocket filled with cookies. We lost touch after I retired, but I would sometimes see her at Battlefield station. One thing I know for sure: she is safe with God now. I pray God’s comfort and peace to all who loved her.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

July 9, 2025 at 3:57 pmI want to send my condolences and prayers to the family and friends of my auntie Gail. You were a beautiful spirit wrapped in style, strength, and endless kindness. You carried yourself with such elegance, always polished, always poised, but what shined the brightest was your unwavering faith in Christ. Even in difficult moments, you remained a woman of prayer, a woman of strength, a woman who believed in God’s promises. Your life was a testimony of faith in action, and I am so grateful to have known you in this life. I wish it was more time for all the time that was missed but I will cherish our last conversation.
Though my heart aches with your absence, I find peace in knowing that you are now reunited with my Uncle Derrick. I know you are free in the presence of the Lord you loved so deeply.
I know your legacy will live on through your children and grandchildren.
Rest well, Auntie. Until we meet again.
With all my love, Your Niece Chantal

July 10, 2025 at 12:16 amMy heart, condolences and prayers are with Tianna and the family at the passing of Gail.
I had the honor of meeting Gail many years ago when she registered Tianna in my preschool class at Calvary Christian School System (CCSS)
Gail was a devoted and dedicated parent who attended all functions pertaining to her daughter the school. She was one of my best parents and Tianna was one of my best students.
Tianna has grown up to be a beautiful young lady and every time I would see Gail at church I would ask about her and Gail’s face would light up with pride as she gave me the latest update on how and what Tianna was doing.
I will surely miss our talks and seeing the fashion Queen.
May God’s peace, strength, and comfort be with the family as they celebrate the life and legacy of Gail! 😌🙏🏾💔🌹
