After a short illness, Frank Solomon Hall, Sr. of Chesapeake, Virginia, departed this life on October 3, 2024. He was born on March 22, 1932, to the late William Archer Hall and Lefelior Wilson Bell Hall in Abilene, Virginia. At an early age, he accepted Christ and was baptized at Roanoke Baptist Church in Abilene. He received his education in the Charlotte County Public School System.
Frank met and married the love of his life, DeLeva Ganelle Carrington of Keysville, Virginia. From that union, two children were born, Frank Solomon Hall, Jr. and Barney Jerome Hall. They both preceded their father in death. Other family members who predeceased Frank were his brothers: Theodore Hall, Dennis Hall, Walter Hall, James Hall, Joseph Bell, and Jacob Bell.
Frank was employed by the Virginia Railroad until he was transferred to Norfolk and Southern Railroad in Norfolk, Virginia, where he worked for 40 years. During this time, he enrolled in a Norfolk State University vocational program to learn to lay brick and stone. From this training, Frank became a contractor, building new homes and remodeling older ones throughout the Tidewater, Virginia area. One of his first undertakings was to design and build a “dream house” for his wife, where she continues to reside. He also built a house for his parents. In a further demonstration of his contracting skills, he constructed a parsonage for Norfolk United Methodist Church in Norfolk, Virginia, lowered the ceiling, and remodeled the pulpit and communion areas.
Frank was a hard worker, but he also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating with his family and friends. He taught his sons and one of his granddaughters to fish. Oftentimes, they would fish off his boat in the Atlantic Ocean and bring their catch back home for a scrumptious fish fry. He also enjoyed membership in a hunting club.
Frank leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, DeLeva Ganelle Hall; one sister, Mary Ann Hall Townsend of Keysville, Virginia; four grandchildren: Latrice Rennie of Hanover, Maryland, Candice Hall of Chesapeake, Virginia; Frank Jamal Hall of Las Vegas, Nevada; Lauryn Hall of Chesapeake, Virginia and Trenice Hall of Smithfield, Virginia; six great-grandchildren: Christopher Rennie, Dejah Rennie, Angelique Hall, Frankie Dominique Hall, Mason Hall, and Luna Hall; seven nieces and nephews: Theresa Scott, Winston Salem, North Carolina, Dr. Brenda Townsend, Newark, Delaware, Darlene Townsend, Esq. Randallstown, Maryland, Rose Thomas (Henry), Charles Town, West Virginia, Dr. Howard Townsend, lll (Florence), Fredericksburg, Virginia, Lloyd Hall, Dennis Hall, Jr., and a host of other relatives and friends. Frank will be truly missed by his family and all who knew him.
