Francis Bannister

Francis (Frank) Bannister was born September 4, 1932, to William Bannister and Oliva Clark Bannister in Pennsylvania and was one of 7 children. Upon completing school, Frank joined the Air Force and served as an MP and was honorably discharged. Frank lived in Detroit where he worked for Ford Motor Company as a toolmaker and retired after 25 years. Once Frank retired, he moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia and married longtime friend Macy whom he had known for close to 30 years and they were happily married for 29 years. Frank’s pride and joy was his home, he enjoyed spending time on home projects and could build and repair almost anything

In his spare time, Frank enjoyed coaching his grandchildren Aubrey, Justin, Christian, and Cameron in baseball and attending their various sporting events; along with enjoying visits from granddaughter Briana. The grandchildren loved their “Poppy” and were always excited to be in his company.  Frank also enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Macy and loved to be on the dance floor whenever there was a party!

Frank attended FavorNation Church and in his earlier years enjoyed serving in the Men’s, Golden Age, and Pastors Aide Ministries at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Frank also volunteered his time with Habitat for Humanity.

Frank was predeceased by his parents, brothers Stafford Bannister, Eddie Bannister, Alexander Bannister, sister Mary Pankey, grandchildren Aquil Bannister, and Akins Bannister.

Frank leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Macy L Bannister, sons Kevin (Joy) Bannister, William Bannister, daughter Desiree (Victor) Merriweather, along with step-son Robert (Carol) Klass, step-daughter Gwendolyn Donald, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins and a multitude of friends. Frank’s memory is lovingly cherished by his sisters Grace (James)Brown and Ruth Canty.

    To Gwen and the family my deepest condolence so sorry for the passing of your dear loved one. I pray for your comfort and continuous strength and blessings. Mr. Francis you have always been a shining light, a special person every since you were one of my son’s baseball coach at PG. You reminded me so much of my Dad your kind and gentle spirit will definitely be missed. You have gained your wings, so you can sore right to heaven gates, Rest Welll, rest well….
