On May 1, 2019, God granted our mother, Fannie E. Rodgers her wings to be with our Heavenly Father. Fannie Elizabeth Rodgers was born on November 22, 1931, in Greenville, NC to the late Maggie Langley and Johnnie House. After relocating to Norfolk, Virginia, she began her career as a practical nurse in March of 1970. In the years to follow, February of 1977, she became a certified Medical Ward Clerk at Norfolk General Hospital. She then continued her upward trajectory and graduated from the Fashion Institute of Norfolk, while completing courses in dressmaking, fitting, alterations and commercial sewing.
The next forty-four (44) years, she blessed the world with her phenomenal talent as a clothing designer and seamstress. She was absolutely the “best” at her craft in designing men’s suits and specializing in women’s formal gowns and shoes. Sewing was her gift from God as demonstrated through her work at various retail clothing stores, including Barry Manufacturing Company and Upscale. Only one word could accurately describe her sewing skills…” AMAZING”. She added a touch of love to every hem, every cuff, and every stitch. She was very generous in her giving to patrons and friends. You would often fun her counseling and encouraging people, both young and old to do better with their lives. She often would share her talent with the youths, by teaching them art of tailoring. She worked multiple jobs including General Foam Plastic, Gents; and who could forget her “happy” days at High’s Ice Cream on Ballentine Boulevard!! Momma loved smiling, dancing, eating crabs and speaking her mind at all times.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Edward Rodgers (Thalia), Kimberly Cleckley (Nathaniel), Terry Barrett (Lynette) and Sonja Rodgers; grandchildren: Laquanda Coleman, Edrica Taylor, Tajuana Rodgers, Drakea Brehon, Ray Saunders, Mackenzie Reed, Isaiah Reed, Chase Barrett and Olivia Barrett; a sister, Beaulah Moore; 8 great-grandchildren; long-time close friend, Deloris Johnson and a host of relatives and friends. You will be dearly missed by all family members and friends.
