Evelyn Delores Hampton

Evelyn Delores Tyree Hampton peacefully departed this life on April 29, 2025, at Sentara General Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was born on February 20, 1952, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late William A. Tyree and Emma B. Tyree.

Evelyn was educated in the Norfolk Public School System and attended Maury High School. She completed TEST Business School.  She went on to enjoy a fulfilling career with Bell Atlantic, which later became Verizon, from which she retired. At the time of her passing, she was employed with Avis.

In her youth, Evelyn was a devoted member of Garden of Prayer #3 Church of God in Christ. Throughout her life, she remained active in her community and was a proud member of several senior and civic groups: Oakmont North Senior Group, Red Hatters Sassy Sisters, Red Hatters High Steppers, Distinguished Seniors, the New York Exchange Senior Group, Park Place Civic League, Pioneers and CWA Union.

Evelyn will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (“GG”), sister, and cherished friend.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters: Mrs. Ellen Passmore of St. Matthews, SC, and Diana Johnson of New York. One son-in-law, Alvin Passmore. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Rosetta Davis; seven grandchildren (Alicia, Alvin Jr., Austin, Andre, Antione, Christian, and Christina) and eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, extended family, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron Hampton; her parents, William and Emma Tyree; four brothers: Donald, George, Benjamin, and William Tyree; and two sisters, Lilie Tyree and Sharon Pittman.

Evelyn’s radiant smile, generous spirit, and unwavering love for her family and community will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
