Evelyn Casper Burns

Sunrise: February 11, 1962

Sunset: April 23, 2024

In Loving Memory of Evelyn Burns, who was called home to be with the Lord on April 23, 2024. She was born on February 11, 1962, to the late Walter Miles and Edna Mae Thomas in Portsmouth, VA. Evelyn was a woman of many talents. She attended Wilson High School, excelled as a hair stylist, cosmetologist, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), and daycare provider. Additionally, she worked at Mary Jane Bakery and served as a cement layer.

Evelyn’s smile and personality was contagious, that brightened up every room when she entered. Evelyn was a “pistol” and truly believed in doing right by others in life; she was the voice for others who did not have one. Evelyn enjoyed playing her numbers in the lottery, listening to music especially “Eddie LeVert”, going for walks, cook/bake and spend time with family in-person or just talk on the phone.

Evelyn was a woman of drive and determination, always committed to doing what needed to be done the right way. She never gave excuses; instead, she gave what she could to anyone in need of help. Everyone who met Evelyn loved her dearly. She loved her children and was a devoted mother who always put the health and welfare of her children before her personal wants and comforts. Even in her time of sickness, she continued to care for her sister Deborah; regardless of what sacrifices needed to be made. Though, Evelyn is now in heaven, she will forever remain in our hearts. She continues to guide us as our guardian angel, watching over us every step of the way.

Evelyn was predeceased by brother, Kirk Miles and sister, Deboarh Miles.

Evelyn leaves to continue her legacy: her daughter, Branden Burns; her son, William Burns; her seven siblings, Walter Miles Jr. (Joyce) of Norfolk Va., Retter Williams of Norfolk VA., Sandra McKnight (Michael) of Portsmouth VA., Yvette Miles of Portsmouth VA. Douglas Miles (Avis) of Newport News VA., Pamela James of Fayetteville NC and Joseph Miles (Shawn) of Kenosha Wisconsin. She also leave to morn a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
