On Saturday, June 15, 2019 Eva Mae Johnson closed the last chapter of her life as she entered the gates of eternal rest. She was born on March 2, 1947 in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Sarah A. Short and Jesse Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband James Johnson, Sr., stepfather David Short and sister Carolyn Brown. She attended Portsmouth Public School. She accepted Christ in her life years ago at New Mount Olivet Baptist Church. Eva was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, friend. Eva worked in retail and she loved shopping and decorating it was a passion of hers. Her decorations would turn people’s heads because she was just
that talented.

She leaves to cherish her memories seven children, Jacqueline Bateman (Tony), Fleecy Brown, Sonya Davis (Mario), Demetrious Johnson (Taneisha), Brandon Johnson, James Johnson, Jr. (Shante), Shakia Dukes (Dominique); 16 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren. She also leaves 6 sisters, Thomasine (Arthur), Debra (Tony), Jessica, Wendy (Herman), Tonya and Kelly; two aunts, Odell Jones and Elise Jones.

    Ms. Eva was the sweetest
    lady on my mothers block. Always had a smile, always had something sweet to say when I visited my mom. I’ll miss her beautiful smile and sweet spirit. May the God of peace be your strength during this time.
