After a long period of illness, Eva Mae Keller Blake, departed our midst on April 18, 2018 at 3:09p at Autumn Care, Norfolk, VA. Born December 3, 1924 in Greenwood county, SC to the late TL Ketter and the late Claudia Puckett Keller. She was the eldest of their 13 children, which she helped to raise. She grew up and was educated in Greenwood county, SC schools. Eva Mae relocated to Detroit, MI where she met and married the late William Alex Lewis. Through this union they were blessed with 3 children. Grady Lewis (deceased), Diana King and Jacqueline Kollore (deceased). The family then relocated to Queens, NY where Eva worked as a domestic in New York’s Jewish community. She was an active choir member of Advance Baptist Church and the Sunday school superintendent. During this time she met and married the late Jeff Blake.
Eva worked in the Jewish community for 20 plus years until she relocated to Virginia with her late daughter Jacqueline. She may’ve no longer worked for pay, but she continued to work for God. She would share the word of God with anyone willing or not. She would share the word of God in person, phone or in a letter and always with a smile and a sense of humor of hers we all loved. She would spend hours reading and rewriting the word of God so it would sink in. She is truly one of God’s servants and has earned her place in heaven.
Her passing leaves a void for those whom she loved and cherished. She leaves her daughter Diana King of Alexandria, VA. Her 9 grandchildren Sharon Hunter, Terrence King, Gregory Johnson, Jovanka Dash, Paquita Billups, Myrtice King-Gonzalez, Taisha Mitchell, Nathaniel Mitchell, Daquan Johnson and a host of relatives and friends.
