Eugene Phillip Frye’s life was a tapestry of dedication, creativity, and joy. Born on April 16, 1939, in Charlottesville, Virginia, Eugene’s journey was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family, his passion for art, and his service to his country and community.
Eugene is survived by his devoted wife, Percilla Frye, his beloved son Jason L. Frye, stepdaughter Theresa Stallworth, and cherished grandchildren London Frye, Amber Frye, Jason D. Frye, and Marquis Stallworth. He is also remembered by his loving siblings: Cynthia Wesley, Jacqueline Hudson, Denise Johnson, Lisa Morring, Reverend Charles Frye, James Frye, and Anthony Frye, along with a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Frye and Eugene P. Frye Sr.; his sisters Theresa Locker and Carole Copeland; his brother William Frye; and his stepson George Shaw.
As the eldest of a large and loving family, Eugene set a remarkable example of hard work, love, and commitment. His early education was in the Chesapeake school system, and he attended Crestwood High School. He pursued art classes at Norfolk State University, nurturing a passion for oil painting. Eugene’s creative works enriched the lives of many, gracing the walls of family homes, churches, and local businesses. His love of horses often inspired his art, and his vibrant pieces reflected his zest for life.
Eugene proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964, working in the fields of chemical, biological, and radiation services. Following his military service, he embarked on a career at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, dedicating over 30 years of service before retiring. He continued to give back to his community by working for Virginia Beach Public Schools.
Known for his radiant smile, sense of humor, and impeccable sense of style, Eugene was truly the life of the party. His laughter and charm lit up every room, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Eugene’s memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his kindness, creativity, and infectious spirit. Eugene Phillip Frye will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His legacy of love, laughter, and dedication lives on in the hearts of those who knew him.
