Eugene O’Neal, Jr.

Eugene “June or June Bug” O’Neal Jr., 84 of Chesapeake, Virginia transitioned in his home to be with the Lord on March 23, 2021. Born the youngest of seven brothers and one sister to Eugene O’Neal Sr. and Bessie Whitley O’Neal in Johnston County, North Carolina. During his early years living in Zebulon N.C. Eugene worked on the family farm before relocating to Norfolk, Virginia with five of the six brothers to find work and wives. Upon his arrival in Norfolk, he worked at the Southern Meat Packing, truck driving Instructor at DD Jones, and a butcher for Giant Open-Air Market. Eventually, he retired 26 years’ service to the City of Norfolk in the department of Parks and Recreation. Eugene was married to the apple of his eye Shirley O’Neal for 51 years and raised five children. Eugene loved his family and took pride in cooking his famous family’s North Carolina Barbeque sauce at family gatherings. He was a car lover and enjoyed fixing all types of cars mostly Chevy and Oldsmobile. He enjoyed watching football and baseball games. Deacon Eugene O’Neal was a faithful, devoted, and active member of Solid Rock COGIC for over 60 years. He leaves to cherish his memory; daughter Robin White, sons, Darryl, Patrick (Shannold), Christopher, Timothy; beloved grandsons, LaVonje White III, Zion, Zameir; brother-in-love Lionel Ruffin (Inez); amazing nieces, awesome nephews; and a large host of cousins and friends
