Miss Ethel Mae Massenburg, born August 12, 1961, to Douglas C. Massenburg and Mary Jane Massenburg, was always there for family and a great friend to many. Ethel was a graduate of JFK High School in Suffolk, VA, and attended Lawrenceville Community College for her bachelor’s degree. Ethel had a dream of becoming a child psychologist when she was attending college with the hope of helping kids in their future that would change the world in their future to become successful adults and make the world a better place. She was employed by Red Apple Restaurant and the Dining Room Restaurant and Lounge for 20 years. She was also employed by Derlz’s Bar and Pub for the last 10 years, putting smiles on faces with her cooking and her sassy attitude. Ethel would not let you get away without acknowledging her love for you if you were a family member or a friend.

Ethel was predeceased in death by her mother, Mary Jane Massenburg; father, Douglas C. Massenburg; foster father, Johnnie Lee Montgomery; grandparents, Nancy L. Scott and Rossie L. Scott; eight aunts, Beatrice Jones, Elise Williams, Loretta Morton, Elizabeth Davis, Mrs. Alice White, Mrs. Rebbie White, Ms. Vinnie Bailey, and Mrs. Laura Horton; three uncles, John Thomas Scott, Junie Bean Scott, and George Scott.

She leaves to cherish memories: one sister, Deborah Massenburg of Suffolk, VA; two nephews, Travell D. Massenburg, Sr., and Jermaine E. Massenburg; two nieces, Sharon M. Massenburg and Nancy L. Massenburg all of Suffolk, VA; eight great-nieces, nine great-nephews, Cousins; Adrienne, Floyd, Jr., Barbara, Ronald, Eric, Freddie, Anthony, Shaum, Felecia, Jewel Combs, Nancy (Dale), Yvette Scott, James Scott, Jr., Raymond Scott, and Howard, and a host of other cousins and friends.
