Erma Elizabeth Morrow, 84, the beloved matriarch of the Morrow family, peacefully passed away on February 18, 2025.
Erma was born to Octavious McCoy and Cliftoria Washington on September 3, 1940. Erma dedicated her life to her children, and her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Erma created an environment of open communication and unconditional support, empowering her children to pursue their dreams while always being there to offer wisdom and encouragement.
Mom loves to teach and offer help to countless others in need of guidance or comfort. Mom also infused our home with hand dance, music, and sports.
Mom was a member of St. Thomas AME Zion Church of Norfolk, VA. As our mother, she raised her children in the ways of the Lord, teaching them to love and trust in Him always. She instilled her strong values and found comfort in verses such as John 14:1: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me”.
Erma was preceded in death by her father, Octavious McCoy; mother, Cliftoria Washington; spouse, John A. Morrow; and brother, William Allen McCoy.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Shirley M. Jones, brothers: Marshall McCoy and Octavious McCoy, Jr., her children: Clifton McCoy, Arland Morrow, Carmen Gay (Carl), and Carmella Pryor (Raymond). Erma also leaves her grandchildren: Courtney Tate, Jr., Chakeeta Carolina, Greyl Cumber, Quamane Cumber, Lakeisha Cumber, Keisha Cumber, Ryan Evans Bagsby, Taureon Evans, Dominic Evans, Arland Morrow, Jr., and Curtis Cuffee; 29 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.
