Eric Douglas Coleman


Sunrise: February 21, 1951

Sunset: April 5, 2024

During the early morning sunrise on April 5th, the love of my life, Dr. Eric Douglas Coleman, was called home to be with the Lord. Eric was born to Thomas and Alice Coleman on February 21, 1951, in New York. Eric was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Kenny Taylor, and Thomas E. Coleman. 

Eric graduated from Port Richmond High School (NY) and continued his educational journey by earning a bachelor’s degree from The College of Staten Island (NY), a master’s degree from Old Dominion University (VA), and a doctorate degree from The George Washington University (DC).  Eric served 4 years in the United States Airforce specializing in (hydraulic Controls). Eric retired from the United States Department of Energy where he served as the Director of the Office of Learning and Workforce Development. He also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Virginia’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies.  Eric also worked for the University of Virginia as a Senior Organization/Leadership Development Consultant; Virginia Department of Transportation as a Learning and Development Manager; and Northrop Grumman as Program Administrator. 

Eric is survived by his wife Sheryl Johnson. His children Idaiah Coleman, Shomari Coleman, Eshe Coleman (Chane), Gyasi Coleman, stepdaughters LaShelle Arnold (Matthew) and Dr. Shereeta Ashenfelter (Daniel) and Geoffery Coleman (Trina) His sisters, Marcia Coleman Smith, Sigrid Taylor, and brother Richard Coleman (Edna), and aunt, Shirley Artis. He also leaves to cherish his memory grandchildren, great grands, a host of other relatives and friends.

    My sincere condolences to the Coleman Family!! I worked with Eric for many years at DOE. He accepted me as part of his team when no one else would and I will always be grateful for that. I not only knew Eric as my manager, but also as my friend. I’m sure I speak for everyone on his old team that our heart were saddened by his passing. We love, miss, and thank you, Eric. God bless you and rest in Peace. 😢❤️🙏
