Emanuel Christian Dew

Sunrise: January 20, 2010

Sunset: June 17, 2019

Emanuel Christian Dew, age 9, gained his angel wings on Monday, June 17, 2019, at Children’s Hospital of Kings Daughter’s.  Emanuel was preceded in death by his father, Samuel E. Dew, paternal grandparents; Daniel and Catherine Dew. Maternal grandparents; John and Helen Gunter. His aunt, Emma Lee Jarvis.

Manny, as we called him was a natural comedian and prankster.  Dennis the Menace, had nothing on our Manny.  However, sometimes challenging, Manny never failed to put a smile on your face and tell you he loved you. There was no way you could stay mad with him.  He always wanted you to know he loved you.  When not being the comedian of the hour you could find him playing with his hundreds of beads, for hours at a time.  He loved his game shows, Wheels of Fortune and Family Feud, but only if Steve Harvey was hosting. Manny say he liked the way that man dressed. When his mom needed him to put on a shirt and tie all she had to say was you know Steve wears one and it was a wrap. Let’s not forget his westerns. Rifleman and Gunsmoke were his shows.  He had the opportunity to take classes in horseback riding and his horse’s name was Hopper. He loved Hopper and could tell you some wild stories about him. Manny thought he was Matt Dillon and loved walking around in his full cowboy gear, he especially loved his beat-up black hat. He loved, loved, loved school. He never wanted to miss a day.  He would even get up on Saturday mornings and ask his mom if he could go to school.

Although, only nine, Emanuel was very specific when it came to what he wanted and how he wanted it. It didn’t take much for him but he always knew exactly what he wanted.  Black was his favorite color, he wanted dollar store beads, Sam club hot dogs, Wawa sub, pork fried rice, aunt Diane’s noodles, and pizza, so he could eat the top off but no crust for example and it had to be what he told you or he’d let you know, that’s not it. His dream when he got bigger was for his mom to get him a red truck and he would always tell her with excitement, Mom, I want me a red truck, that’s right.

Emanuel, is lovingly remembered by his mother, Mrs. Bernice Dew;  brother, Michael (Purnell) Dew,  God brothers, Daryl and Darius Curtis, God sister, SaQuira Curtis, Adopted sisters, Tanisha (Antonio) Hall, Cynthia (Troy) Pettier, lots of aunts and uncles: Thomas Smith (Patricia), Hempstead, NY, Lottie Bannister, Cape Charles, VA; Diane Spady, Cheriton, VA; JoAnne Sanders, (Raymond), Roosevelt, NY; John James Smith, Jacksonville, NC, Helen Waldo (Bobby), Norfolk, VA; Anderson Dew, Barbara Sloan, both of Chesapeake; Shirley Johnson, Kansas City, MO, Audrey Richardson, Carolyn Hunter both of Chesapeake,  Melvin Dew (Faith) Portsmouth, VA; Evelyn (Thywenston,Sr.) Swain ; Ruby (Dennis) Ward, Thomas Dew, Nathaniel Dew and Sarita Dew of Chesapeake. And an abundance of cousins who were all his best friends.

Manny will be greatly missed but he left us with so many enjoyable moments. He leaves a wonderful legacy behind: Live, Love, Laugh!

My most sincerest condolences go out to Manny Dews Mother. There are no words that can possibly help to mend your heart. But you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I had the absolute pleasure of working with Manny as one of his assist teachers in the past. My heart is so broken to hear this news. Mrs. Dew, I pray that you find the peace and comfort to help you through this difficult time.

We are so very sorry for your loss. Please find comfort in God’s sure promise of a resurrection as set forth in the Bible (Acts 24:15, John 5:28, 29). Those who are raised to life on a restored paradise earth will have the prospect of never again being subjected to misery, sickness, and death (Revelation 21:4). Bernice, my heart hurt for you. I have never seen your son until the picture I see now. He is a handsome boy and was blessed to have you for a mother as well as God allowing you to have him for a son in this life. It is my prayer that God give you peace and wrap his loving arms around you to comfort you. I love you

I offer my most heartfelt condolences to the family. There are no words sufficient enough to cover over the grief of losing a child. The resurrection hope God gives lets us know that we may see our loved ones again-Acts 24:15, John 5:28-29. May this help comfort you and your family during this most difficult time.
