On December 9, 2024, the Lord called our beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Ellery Poole, Jr., for the flight to his eternal heavenly home surrounded by his family. Ellery was affectionately known throughout his years as “E.P., Mr. Poole, Bowman, and Bruah.” He was born to the late Ellery Poole Sr. and Viola Holley Knox on March 2, 1947, in Norfolk, Virginia. Ellery Poole, Jr., a man of wisdom, wit, organization, and unwavering spirit and fight, left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.

Ellery was educated in the Norfolk Public School System. After completing his education, his education his journey led him to multiple professional career pursuits. He was stern and dedicated, and he was a leader who stood out as a coach and mentor among volleyball and basketball teams, leading them to multiple championships with all age groups and colleagues. Ellery was a hard worker; he was passionate and serious about his work. Ellery’s influence and impact were felt not just in his family and community but also in his profession. His faithful, tireless, and diligent work ethic led him to become the custodial supervisor with Norfolk Public School System, where he took pride and established many friends and work relationships until his retirement.

Ellery Poole, Jr. was united in marriage with the love of his life, Vivan Poole. They fostered a home filled with love and nurturing. Ellery’s love for his family was not just a part of him; it was the essence of his existence. He was a provider and a mentor; his caring nature and generous heart were a testament to his love for his family and friends. Throughout his years, he found solace and joy in cooking, boxing, working, and spending time with family and friends. Although he didn’t have a favorite team, he loved watching basketball, football, and boxing; he loved rooting for the underdog in any sport. Ellery loved to spark a good debate or disagreement if you allowed him to win, it put a smile on his face.

Ellery Poole, Jr., a pillar of strength and a fighter, had a deep faith and a profound understanding of trusting God. His faith was a source of strength, guiding him through life’s challenges. He was a devoted and faithful member of Calvary Revival Church, which he attended regularly with his wife until their health prevented them from attending. Together, they proudly were amongst the first graduates of Calvary’s new member classes. He was a man without attending church, but he was not a man without God.

In addition to his parents, Ellery will join his heavenly angel, his wife Vivan, grandparents, five brothers, three grandsons, two great-grandchildren, and a heavenly choir of other family and friends.

Ellery Poole, Jr.’s life and personality will forever be cherished His love and legacy will continue to live in the hearts of his daughters Kandie Poole, Katina Poole (Dominic), Kisha Tynes, and Keala Cooper (Joe), five siblings, twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Ellery Poole, Jr. will be forever remembered as a warm and comforting presence in our lives.

    May the lord strengthen the family .Death is not the end trust what Jesus said ,in the Bible at John 5:28,29 .We put faith in his words and the sacrifice of why Jesus gave his life so that death will be no more.

    Sending prayers, love, and my deepest heartfelt condolences to all of you. Mr. Ellery Poole was my buddy. We enjoyed our conversations over the phone each time we talked. He was a comedian for sure, and such a really nice man. May he rest peacefully. Praying that each of you find comfort and peace. He will be truly missed. God bless.
