Ellen Lois Smith went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2019 in Norfolk, Virginia. She was born September 21, 1939 in Harrellsville, NC to the late Ellen Victoria and John Thomas Owens. Ellen graduated from nursing school in 1967, as a  licensed Practical Nurse, and worked in the nursing field for over 40 years. A dedicated and hard worker, Ellen loved and cared for people and was passionate about helping others. During her time in the nursing field, she worked both in public health and in the private sector. In 2005, Ellen retired from nursing, and began to devote more time to her church family and ministry. Her
activities in church included; teaching Sunday school, serving on the Usher Board, the Pastor’s Aide Committee, Trustee, and
Church Mother. Ellen was also a mother, sister, and wife. Married November 24, 1972 to the late Clarence E. Smith, they raised their family in a disciplined yet loving home. Ellen believed in the bond of sisterhood and remained close to her siblings both in life and death.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her oldest sister, Vivian J. Eccles. She is survived by her sister, Ernestine
Lacey, daughters Evangeline Willis (Billy) and Latoya Smith, one son Gilbert Morris (Dayna), grandchildren (Allen, Alexis,
Gabrieal, Angela, Jaelen, Gia, and Dominique), and great grandchildren. Also, by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends
that will truly miss her.
