Eliza Jane James, 85, of Chesapeake, Virginia, peacefully passed away on May 5, 2025. Born in Norfolk County, which later became the City of Chesapeake, to the late Roscoe and Corean (Wilson) Cuffee. Eliza dedicated her life to caring for others as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) for over 35 years before retiring in June 2009.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Quinton C. James, Jr.; her beloved son, Curtiss N. James; her sisters, Rosa Mae Lassiter and Corine Wilson; her brothers, James Cuffee, Roscoe Cuffee, Jr., and Russell Cuffee, Sr.; and her cherished grandson, Daniel (Damon) Maurice Riddick.
Eliza leaves to cherish her memory three devoted sons: Quinton C. James, III, Aaron L. James, Sr. (AeRan), and Vernon M. James. She is also survived by her step-daughter, Cathy Griffin Riddick (Darrell); seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her baby son, Vernon, held a special place in her heart and was her dedicated caregiver in her later years. She was also blessed with the care and companionship of three special caregivers, Hattie Creekmore, Bonnie Silvers, and Yvonne Griffin.
