I will lift up my eyes to the hills–From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.  He will not allow your foot to be moved.

Psalm 121: 1-2

Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord.  Praise ye the Lord.  Psalm 150:6

Eleanor (Mae) Townes Williams entered into her heavenly reward on the 4th day of September, in the year of our Lord, 2019.

Eleanor Mae Townes was born to Lemuel Lee and Mary Hill Townes on January 25, 1925 in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Her early childhood years were spent in various NewYork Boroughs.  Her home was rich with love, laughter, and friendships.  Eleanor moved to the Campostella Section of Norfolk at the age of eleven years old.  She attended Abraham Lincoln Elementary School and Booker T. Washington High School.

As a young lady, after the sudden passing of her mother, Eleanor relocated to New York, New York.  She retired as a Senior Buyer with the New York City Board of Education.

Eleanor, also affectionately known as “Ellie and Mother Eleanor” was a very kind and generous woman.  Her main passion was her love of the Lord.  In 1971 she gave her life to Christ and became a faithful and loyal member of Soul Saving Station Church of New York City, under the pastorship of Bishop Jesse Winley.  The congregation became her extended family. She asked God to give her  joy and He immediately gave her unspeakable peace AND joy.  She  soon discovered a wonderful  relationship as His daughter, by renewing her mind through study of the Word, prayer,  praise and worship.

In 1992 Mother Eleanor  returned to Norfolk, Virginia, and became a member of Calvary Revival Church, Class 5, under the leadership of Bishop B. Courtney McBath.  She was an active member of several ministries, including the Bereavement Team.  She was known for her absolutely delicious tea!  Mother Eleanor was employed as a prayer counselor at the Christian Broadcasting Network.  She was known for leading others to Christ and wanted all to know the love of God by His great gift  and sacrifice: ” The life, death and Resurrection  of  Jesus Christ.”

Mother Williams was very  young at heart.  She could surf the internet for hours.  She always enjoyed learning.  She enjoyed taking pictures and giving them to loved ones and friends.  Her computer skills were excellent and she was always asking questions and learning.  During her late eighties, she drove wherever she wanted to go in her stylish Hybrid Honda.  She would often tap the steering wheel and quote, ” Under the Blood“.   Mother Eleanor loved to travel and see the beauty of God’s World.  Mother Eleanor was a tither and giver.  She always testified that God would provide everything that you could ever ask or imagine. Mother Eleanor was always encouraging young women to trust God no matter what they may have been experiencing.  Never ashamed of her past but positive of her new life in Christ, she freely told of her life experiences, and told how God had always made a path and provisions. Her motto was “all saints have a past and all sinners have a future”.

Mother Williams was predeceased by her husband, Mr. Charles Williams, Sr.; her daughter, Jacqueline Woodhouse; her sister, Leona Harris; and her granddaughter, Rhonda W. Mendoza.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved  son Ronald Townes              and his wife, Vivianne,  of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren: Renee Kennedy, Peter Townes (and his wife Nicole), Bjorn Townes ( and his wife Laquita), Meri Robinson (and her husband Eric), Nicholas Townes (and his wife Soneka), and Jeremiah Townes; two stepchildren, Charles Williams Jr., and Roma Jean Forrest (and her husband William); Seventeen Great Grandchildren; 10 Great Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Great Grandchild; Six Spiritual Daughters (Cordie Martin, Lula Thornton, Catherine Elliott, Rose Tucker, Gloria Woolard, and Jacqueline Marshall); numerous nephews and nieces, and thousands of special friends.

We, the family, are truly grateful to God for bringing Mother Eleanor into our lives.  We know that she was a gift from God and we rejoice in the blessings, encouragement, and love that she shared with us during her lifetime.  We give God all of the “Glory” for His child and we release her to Him, for we know that we shall see our “Victorious Mother Eleanor” again.
