Eleanor M. Turner

Eleanor Martha Turner affectionately known as “Anna” by family and friends peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on June 17, 2019.

Eleanor was born on May 22, 1924 to the late James and Gertrude Connor. Eleanor grew up in Norfolk, VA where she attended school and would later raise her family. Eleanor was employed by DePaul Medical Center as a Nurse’s Aide for 32 years. Eleanor loved to care for people.

Eleanor married the late Horace M. Turner Sr. and from this union 8 children were born. Eleanor cherished her children and husband and enjoyed caring for them.

Eleanor was a caring spirit with a contagious smile who was always willing and ready to help anyone in need. Eleanor was always available with a listening ear and great life advice.

Eleanor is predeceased by her mother Gertrude Connor, father James Connor, husband Horace Turner Sr., daughter Dorothy Winfield, sisters Marjorie Fields, Marion Coker, Lela Holmes, and brother Walter Johnson.

Left behind to hold her close in memory is her loving family children; Rosa Turner, Horace Turner, Doris Felton, Verna Williams, and James Turner of Norfolk, VA, Bobby Turner (Lillian) of Hartford, CT and Richard Turner (Deborah) of Portsmouth, VA bonus sons; Sylvester Parker and Daniel Harris, of Norfolk, VA, 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Eleanor also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    My condolences go out to the family. Just found out today of Mrs.Anna’s passing. She was such a sweet spirit who I enjoyed seeing as her and my grandmother shared many backyard moments. You will be truly missed my dear sweet neighbor!
