Reverend Dr. Edward R. Shambry Jr. passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at his home.  He was born September 26, 1950, in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Edward R. Shambry Sr. and Lula Mae (Edwards) Shambry.  Being reared by Christian parents and under the influence of Christian family members, Pastor Shambry was brought to the First Baptist Church of Lamberts Point in Norfolk, VA as a child.  There he served dutifully and faithfully as an Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Junior Deacon and Baptist Training Union worker.  Following his profession of faith in Christ and his baptism at the age of twelve, it was no surprise to his home church, pastor or family that, at age seventeen, while still in high school, he announced his call to the Gospel ministry.  His initial sermon, delivered on January 20, 1968, was entitled “The Whole Armor of God”, taken from Ephesians 6:10-20.

He graduated from Maury High School in June 1968.  Later that year, he entered Virginia College in Lynchburg, Virginia “renamed Virginia University of Lynchburg” where he was active as a campus leader.  He served as president of his college class, president of the Student Ministerial Association and president of the Student Government.  For his campus leadership efforts, his fellow students presented him with a trophy recognizing his service.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Education at the college.  He received his Master of Divinity Degree-cum laude (“with honors”) from the School of Theology of Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia.  Lastly, he received his Doctorate Degree.

During his long tenure as a Servant of God he held multiple positions.  His ministerial experiences included serving as pastor of the following churches: The Union Baptist Church, Glasgow, Virginia, the Kentuck Baptist Church, Ringgold, Virginia, the First Baptist Church, South Hill, Chesapeake, Virginia, the Gospel Baptist Church, Richmond, Virginia, The Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Doswell, Virginia, the First Baptist Church, Lexington Virginia, Associate Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Lamberts Point, Norfolk Virginia.
