With hearts filled with love and a steadfast belief in God’s purpose, we gather to honor the life of Earl Boney III, who was called to his eternal home on January 14, 2025, at the age of 73. Earl’s life was characterized by faith, love, and a commitment to service, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of kindness and dedication that will be treasured forever.
Earl was born to Earl Boney, Jr. and Mamie Boney in Cheriton, VA, on December 12, 1951. He attended public education in Northampton County, VA. He had a fervent passion for football, playing on the junior varsity and varsity teams as a defensive back and sprinter on the track team during his high school years. He graduated from Northampton High School in Eastville, VA, in 1970. A proud member of the Navy Reserves, Earl devoted himself to his country and its ideals. During his college years, he pursued a degree in Nursing and became a member of the Delta Chapter, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., Norfolk State, forging lifelong bonds of brotherhood and camaraderie.
He also had a fun-loving spirit and an unforgettable sense of humor that brought joy to everyone around him. Whether he was sharing a clever joke, telling a hilarious story, or simply laughing with friends and family, Earl had a gift for making people smile. His humor was rarely at anyone’s expense but was instead a reflection of his warm heart and genuine love for bringing happiness to others. From his playful banter during family gatherings to his knack for finding humor in everyday moments, Earl’s laughter was contagious, leaving behind memories that will forever bring smiles to those who knew him.
Earl embodied deep humility, loyalty, compassion, and an unwavering faith in God. His life’s mission was anchored in his beliefs, which formed the foundation of his character. For over 40 years, he found immense fulfillment in his role as a licensed practical nurse (LPN), providing healing and hope to countless individuals. He also demonstrated Christ’s love through his service in the usher ministry at African Baptist Church.
Earl’s life exemplified loyalty, humility, and love. He derived his greatest joy from the company of his family, cherishing moments filled with laughter, wisdom, and providing steadfast support. His presence was a blessing to all who knew him, serving as a reminder of God’s grace and goodness. He also delighted in the simple pleasures of life, particularly his love for football, movies, and documentaries, which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends.
As we celebrate Earl’s journey, we take comfort in the knowledge that he has received his eternal reward and is now at peace in the presence of the Lord. His legacy endures through his family, including siblings Hanson Boney, Andy Boney, and Earline Davis, as well as his children Erika Nicole Boney, Earl Joshua Boney IV, his former wife, Janet Bell Boney, who remained a devoted friend and shared many cherished moments with him, grandson Olamide Elijah Akinwande, paternal Aunt Gloria Jean Kelly, and paternal Uncle Isaiah Wilson and a host of nièces, nephews and cousins.
Earl Boney III will be remembered as a man of unwavering faith, steadfast love, and selfless service. Though his earthly journey has ended, his spirit lives on in the promise of eternal life and the hearts of those he touched. He will be deeply missed, but we rejoice in knowing he has found rest in the arms of the Lord.
