Dwight Anthony Jenkins entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 14, 2019 at Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia surrounded by his love ones.
He was born May 20, 1951 in East Chicago to Valina Jenkins & LD. Lewis; however, raised by Eugene and Bessie Ellis in Gary, Indiana. He graduated from Calument High School, later joining the United States Army where he served and later receiving an Honorable Discharge. Tony attended school to become a welder. Upon completion he worked at Portsmouth Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA, to provide for his family.
Tony loved watching westerns and karate movies (not to mention trying some of the moves on his kids), it was his reserved times of enjoyment. He enjoyed sports, especially playing basketball, but most importantly his favorite hobby was playing chest. We could talk smack and beat just about everyone in the neighborhood. His reputation on the chest board earned him the title of a Champion.
Life took its toll on Tony, eventually contributing to his medical condition. His positive attitude kept him going, and always expecting a positive outcome. Through many battles Tony faith carry him to resting place of no more pain or suffering. He now rests with his loving daughter, Alicia Jenkins until the day of resurrection.
He is survived by his wife Alice Mae Jenkins of Norfolk, VA; Longtime companion Antoinette Keeling of Norfolk, VA; his seven children: Tony Jenkins Jr., Deonne Jenkins, Alicia Jenkins (deceased), Demetric Jenkins, Derrick Jenkins, Amanda Jenkins, Demien Jenkins of Norfolk, VA; 21 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren. His mother Valina Jenkins, father LD Lewis of Gary, Indiana; 3 Brothers: Durk Chavis, Rod Chavis, Qualen Chavis; One sister: Freya Chavis of Gary, Indiana. Two Bother-in-laws: Sammie Jr. of Fayetteville, NC; Charlie Blount of Culpepper, VA; Four Sister-in-laws: Gloria Lacey of Suffolk, VA, Katherine Washington of Chesapeake, VA, Diane Mason of Woodbridge, VA; Jennette Booker of Augusta, GA. In addition, he will be missed by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, a vast number of other relatives and caring friends.
