The Life and Legacy of Dorothy Lee Baxter Spruill

Dorothy Lee Baxter Spruill was born December 1, 1943 to the late Sam and Emma Baxter of Aurora, North Carolina. Our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Cousin was called to her peaceful external rest July 18, 2020. Known to everyone as “Momma Dot” Ms. Dot she showed love to so many because of her loving heart everyone was welcome to a place to sleep and a meal to eat if she had it you could have it. She made a little to go a long way, so no one was left out, always a listening ear but quick to tell you to always do the right thing, a firm believer in Christ and the need to pray.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Ann Spruill Bellamy and Audrey Spruill Palicios; Vandy L. Spruill; grandson, Calvin Baxter; great grandson, Jeremiah Baxter; great granddaughter, La Syiah Baxter; great granddaughter, Jah’Viah Spruill; great grandson; brothers, William Baxton and Vernon Baxton. Still to cherish her memories, Emma Baxter Summerville (Wendell), Louis H. Baxton (Mavis), Marietta Baxter Holley (George Beard), Donie Regina Baxter Christmas (Nathaniel), Bradley Baxter, Vandray Baxter, Stanley Baxter, Author Barbara Spruill Rogers (Fred), Max W. Spruill and longtime companion, Mack Fulton and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and brothers, William Gibbs, George R. Baxter, Ray Baxton, James Baxton all of New York; sisters, Alice D. Baxter and Betty Baxter of Roper, NC and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

    My condolences to the family. Cousin Dot was a special person to me. I will truly miss her and will always have the memories about her. I was very fortunate to meet her even though it was a short time of meeting my new family but she gave me some wisdom regarding the family. I love you cousin .
