Dorothy G. Riddick

Dorothy Gene “Dot” Riddick left this world to be in the arms of her Master on January 22, 2020. Dorothy was born in Weldon, North Carolina on April 1, 1951 to the late Nell Debrough-Hunt and Zorro Hunt. She was preceded in death by her son, Leeburn Riddick and brother, Johnathan Hunt.

At an early age Dorothy moved to Portsmouth, Virginia and was educated in the Portsmouth  School System. Dorothy also attended college at Tidewater Community College, Portsmouth Virginia for nursing. Dorothy worked for The City of Portsmouth Health Department for seventeen years and retired from Home Health Care, Portsmouth, Virginia due to her illness after twenty-two years of service to them.

Dorothy loved people of all kind and ages. She pursued a career as a Nurse for this reason. She helped anyone in need and never turned anyone away.  She was a very outgoing, loving free spirit person and did not hold her words for anybody.

Left to cherish her memories are one daughter, Debra Riddick Belin of Portsmouth, VA; one son, Delonte M. Riddick, Sr. of Philadelphia, PA; two people she loved like daughters, Annette and Jackie Gatling of Portsmouth, VA; ten grandchildren, Jovon Riddick, Daphne Riddick, Latisha Riddick (DeShawn), Brian Riddick (Precious), Jovontay Riddick, Jana Riddick, Delonte Riddick, Jr., D’Angelo Riddick, Ashari Riddick and Corey Gatling; Eleven great grandchildren, Ronaya Riddick, Jamarion Riddick, Mo’Nae McNeal, Cal’Mari Riddick-Mason, Amari Riddick, Tyshawn Wilson, Courtney Riddick, Kameron Cherry, Precious Kennedy, Abelardo Kennedy and Dennis Kennedy. She also leaves to cherish her memories former husband, Dempsey Riddick; three nieces, Esther Gregory, Erica Riddick, and Linnell Riddick; one great nephew, Antoine Gregory; one god son, Eddie Colden; three special friends Sarah Davenport, Samuel Waddell, and Ronnie Baker and a host of other family and friends.

    Debra, Freda Westbrook, Shirley Westbrook and Barbara Cross was saddened to just hear about the passing of Dot Jean. We regret we weren’t there for you and the family. Dot was a Jewel and a loving person. We love her and will always carry her in our hearts.
