Doris Louise Moore

Sunrise: April 6, 1945

Sunset: February 16, 2022

Doris Louise Moore, 76, was born April 6, 1945, in Okisko, Pasquotank County, NC to the late Irvin Long and Theresa Spellman Long.  Doris was called home to be with the Lord on February 16, 2022.

Born and raised in Pasquotank County, NC, it was there where she crossed paths with the late Glenn A. Moore Sr., whom she married and moved to Brooklyn, NY with in 1961.  Together they raised 4 beautiful children: Anita J. Squires, the late Glenn A. Moore Jr., Debbie L. Mabine, and Lisa D. Garcia.

Not only was Doris a loving wife and mother, but she was also a musician at heart who found and brought great joy with her music.  As a certified musician, Doris played the piano, keyboard, and organ like no other as she created magic with her fingers.  She graced various churches with her talents along the way, influencing people of all ages to express their own talents and follow their dreams while serving the Lord.

In 1992, Doris and her family moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia where she continued to nurture her family and dedicate her life to the Lord.  In addition to serving as a musician, she served as a Deaconess at Morning Star Baptist Church where she was loved and greatly respected.

As she loved working with the youth, she later became a cafeteria worker for Virginia Beach City Public Schools.  The children there were blessed by her infectious smile and pleasant spirit until she retired from the school system in 2009.

Let us not forget Doris’s impeccable taste in fashion!  From her matching purses and shoes to her elegant pants suits and sweet-smelling perfume, she was one sophisticated woman.  When it came to style, no one could tell her a thing as she was always dressed to the nines, shining radiantly each time she stepped out, regardless of the occasion.

Doris leaves to cherish her memory her sisters Catherine and Margaret, her brother Irving, three daughters; Anita (Arrington), Debbie (George), and Lisa; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  In heaven, she has been reunited with her father, Irvin Long, mother, Theresa Long, husband, Glenn A. Moore Sr., son, Glenn A. Moore Jr., and sister, Narcissus Dorsey.
