“Her love, strength, kindness will forever remain in our hearts, guiding us even as re rests in eternal peace.”
Doris Elaine Moore Parker was born on October 19, 1948, in Norfolk, VA, at Community Hospital. On Thursday, January 23, 2025, Elaine passed away peacefully at Norview Rehabilitation Center.
Doris was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in 1966. She devoted over 30 years of service as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Lake Taylor Hospital, where she cared for many patients with compassion. Doris also provided private care for numerous families over the years, offering comfort and care when it was needed most.
A longtime and faithful member of New Weeping Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA, Doris worshipped there for over 25 years. She was known for her kindness, commitment to family, and her unwavering faith.
Elaine’s hobbies included fishing and cooking, two activities she enjoyed sharing with her loved ones. She had a strong belief in speaking her mind.
One of Elaine’s favorite holidays was Easter. For many years, she hosted an Easter egg hunt at her home on 134 Hardy Avenue in Norfolk for family and friends. She would require all the adults to bring a dozen eggs, already cooked and ready to paint, to hide for the kids. Doris would also cook her famous Yaka, a beloved dish that everyone enjoyed.
She was preceded in death by the parents Cicero Moore and Josephine Moore; husband Arthur L. Parker, as well as her sister, Alma Sistrunk and her brother, Gene Moore.
Doris was a devoted mother to her loving children: Brian S. Moore, Sr. (Bridgette Moore), Markus J. Parker (Tomica Parker), and Arthur Parker (Moquette Parker). Doris was also deeply loved by her special children, Sharon Wilson and Bruce Handy.
She was the proud grandmother of Brian S. Moore, Jr., Leah J. Moore, Kiara D. Parker, Marcus L. Parker, Ziquan A. Vann, Corieon Wade, Destiny D. Wade, Brooke Parker, and Jada Mitchell. She will be fondly remembered by her great-granddaughter, Dream Wade. Doris is also survived by her brothers, Archie Moore, Sr., Samuel Moore, Sr., Linwood Moore, Sr., Robert L. Moore, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and many other family members and friends who were touched by her kindness, love, and faith.
Doris was also deeply loved by her special sisters in Christ: Patricia West, May Carter, and Barbra Smith, who supported her in faith and friendship.
Elaine’s sons, Brian, Markus, and Arthur, want to give a special thanks to their uncle, Minister Sam Moore of Second Calvary Baptist Church, located at 2940 Corprew Ave, Norfolk, VA, for taking the time each week to minster to our mom and the entire Norview Heights Rehabilitation residence and staff. We thank God for you.

February 5, 2025 at 11:23 amSo hard to believe she is gone. She was my mother in law roommate. So hard to believe both of them passed on the same day. She was a talker who made you feel welcomed and spoke her mind. I will miss her and the small talks. How good it will be when death and sickness will be no more. Rev. 21:3,4. May she sleep in peace. See you in paradise. 🩷 Condolences to her family.
