Domnique Osouna

Sunrise: November 22, 1927

Sunset: May 12, 2023

On November 22, 1927, the late Fredrick Osouna and Marie Alexia Trochin-Osouna welcomed their eighth child, Domnique Osouna (aka Papa). Friday evening, May 12, 2023, at home our Papa transitioned into eternal rest to be with the Lord.

Domnique attended San Juan Canadian Mission School in Trinidad & Tobago alongside his elder brother, Lennox (Sonny) until he was 12 years old. After school, Domnique started work to care for his family. He held a few odd jobs before landing his first official job as a Mail Clerk for the Trinidad and Tobago Post Office from September 1950 until retiring in 1967.

Track and Field was one of his many passions in his younger days, he was a 200 and 400-Meter sprinter, and ultimately became the captain of the Eastern St. George Athletic Association. This passion led him to mentor the youth about sports. Music was also one of his passions! He was very proficient at playing the steel pan, drums and just being the life of the party.

Domnique accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and became a very spiritual, God-fearing man. Papa’s strong faith kept him going and he made sure his family held the same values and love for God. This faith led him to, Derrice Gloria Theodore-Osouna (She proceeded him in death March 24th, 2016). The two wed on September 30th, 1951, later starting a legendary life together. On December 17th, 1967, he decided to migrate to the United States of America. Not only did he take his wife he made sure any family member that needed assistance to come to the states had the opportunity to do so. He then settled down in Cambria Heights, Queens, where he lived for over forty-five years. Even though he retired in Trinidad & Tobago, this did not stop him from working in the states. Papa had many stories about working for Holiday Magic as a Sales leadership and at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Papa worked here from 1974 until his second retirement in 1990.

In 2017, he moved to Norfolk, Virginia with his youngest daughter, Arlene and grandchildren.

He graced every room with his suave, class and spirit. He was inspirational, selfless, extremely comical, and such a blessing to those that knew him. Anyone that came or passed by Domnique was ‘George’. He made light of any and every moment with his many jokes and old stories. Regardless of the time, day or place, he was always ready to share his childhood memories giving us something to smile about. Papa use to always say “You hold food in your belly, not people”. This saying will live through all of us. As a family legend, he made sure we understood and appreciated our family culture and history. Papa is the reason for it all and we’ll never forget him.

Our Patriarch, Domnique was proceeded in death by his parents, Fredrick & Marie Alexia Osouna (Trochin); his wife Derrice Gloria Theodore-Osouna. His life is treasured and honored by his 6 children, 22 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins, and long-life friends from Trinidad & Tobago all throughout the United States.

Six children: Steve Thomas, Erica Callender-Lallion (Anthony Lallion), Raphael Osouna, Nigel Forbes, Elohim Osouna, and Arlene Osouna-Alston (Michael Alston).
