Dominique M. Gaines

Sunrise: December 2, 2003

Sunset: July 15, 2018

Dominique Monet’ Gaines was born on December 2, 2003 and passed unexpectedly on July 15, 2018 at the age of 14. She was a native of Chesapeake, VA where she resided with her parents and siblings and attended Chesapeake Public Schools. She had recently completed her academic studies at Oscar Smith Middle School and was a rising freshman at Oscar Smith High School.
Dominique is survived by her parents; Dominique Gaines of Pughsville, VA and Delores Gaines of Frederick, MD; three brothers, Nelson Garcia, Keenan Gaines (Cierra) and Khambrel Cooper; three sisters, Tatianna Parker (Stephon), Tajannae Gaines, and Zahvee Carlos; grandmother, Norma Haythe; three nieces, Eliza Garcia, Ellyanna Gaines and Kennedy Parker and nephew, Ezekiel Gaines and two nephews on the way, aunts and uncles, Charles Gaines (Ella), Joyce Dotson, Antonia Green, Rashada White, Leona Bacote, Claudia Carrington, Lee Thompson, Doris Thompson, Leon Bacote, Michelle Reed, Antonio Reed (Lori), Alander Ricketts (Willie), Michelle Sutton, Delores Douglas, Cynthia Kemp and a host of additional aunts, uncles, cousins, friend grandparents, Beatrice U. Dotson and Leroy Dotson and uncle, Tyrone Reed.
Dominique was a loving, caring and extremely witty young lady. She touched the hearts of everyone she met and had a smile you couldn’t forget! Her personality and demeanor exuded individual diversity. She was unique! She recognized and respected individual differences such as race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. She was self aware; finding her ‘own awkwardness’, music choices, dance style and humor, but cared more about mending friendships and the happiness of those she loved. She had her own style and marched to the beat of her own drum! She had a sense of fashion like no other with a sense of humor to match; bright colors with many patterns and crazy socks to match; our own Punky Brewster!
Although Dominique was her birth given name, she had many nicknames and answered to all: Mush, Squishy, Dime, Dom, Nique Nique and Baywatch! She enjoyed life with the love and support of her family and friends. We will miss her more than words can express!

Please accept our condolences on the death of your son. The death of a loved one can be very traumatic for the family. Remember the happy and fun times you shared with him. Remembering those times will be painful at first, but in time, those memories may help you to heal rather than cause you to hurt. Most importantly, rely on our Heavenly Father for comfort. Pray to Him to give you the strength to get through this sad occasion. (Psalm 55:22) He will hear you and give you the strength you need.

“What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget”

Dominique was a really close friend. We went to school together for 3 years and lived across the street from me. We hung out all the time and we told each other everything. She could make anybody smile and laugh. She could make your day go from bad to great. Dom was such an amazing girl and overall person. She has touched everybody she ever talked to. So many people will miss her everyday. I love and miss her.. R.I.P DOM ???
