Dock Leander Powell, Sr.

Dock Leander Powell Sr. Was called to the lord on Monday, January 4, 2021. He was born March 29, 1959 to the late Dock Powell and Evelyn Powell. He was predecessors by his sister Rita Powell and he has five brothers James Powell, Barry Powell, Tyrone Powell Shawn Grimes and Charles Drummond.

Dock attended Granby High School in Norfolk and served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard. He later attended Tidewater Community College, graduating magma cum laude in 1998, having majored in Occupational Technology. For 34 years, Dock worked for the City of Norfolk where he received many awards and certificates: Department Of Utilities Outstanding Employee, Recognition for Attendance, Certificates of Completion for Industrial Maintenance and Industrial Safety and many more. He retired from the City Of Norfolk in May 2016.

For many years, Dock was a faithful member of Garden of Prayer No 3 where he was ordained as Deacon, sang in the men’s choir and served as an usher. He enjoyed attending Bible study and working with the youth ministry. He loved to help others and was always willing to give service when called upon.

Dock leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 40 years, Darlene Powell; his mother, Evelyn Powell; three daughters, Sheena Robertson (Ryan), Shannett Freeman and Shanisha Whitaker (Joshua) and son, Dock Powell Jr. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren Ryan Robertson Jr., Japhon Powell, Devon Carter , Ben Carter, Leya Carter, Eric Freeman Jr., Morgan Irving, Diamond Powell, Star Whitaker, Sky Whitaker, and Joshua Whitaker; 5 great grandchildren, Jasire Johnson, Jayden Sturgis ,Josiah Sturgis, Journey Sturgis and Ralph Rumble V .

Dock was loved by God, family and friends he also loved family functions and cookouts. While he may not be with us in body he will always be with us in spirit, for his memory will live on in our hearts forever.

    To the Powell family”” my condolences to you all, I ment me.Powell 3 years ago at Dialysis, he helped me to understand Dialysis,he also talked about how much he loves his wife and children, but most he talked about his love for God,, I am so sorry for y’all’s loss.     To The Powell Family , I am so very very sorry for your loss at this time , Mr. Dock was a very outstanding chruch member of the GOP#3 for many many years , His love for Father God was soooo real and true 100 percent , And to the Powell family l am praying for you all, Mr. Dock just rest with our father god now.     To the best sister in law on this earth. I pray that God continue to give you my nieces and nephews a peace of calm know that my belated brother with our father, he’s at eazy now no more pain no more doctors and no more medication, I will always remember what he taught me always take care your parents and family and most of all love God. If i could hear his voice one time telling me to take care of myself and make sure I look after our mom. To be absent in the body to be present with the Lord love you Dock aka Bunny.

    To my family with a broken heart it saddens me to the depths of my soul that my brother /cousin has transitioned to a higher calling that makes me rejoice in knowing he’s with the lord Dock and I was like brothers more than cousin going to truly miss him… Love ya we will meet again you will always be bunny to me….
