Dianne Elizabeth Cowell Pope departed from her earthly vessel and entered eternal life on May 3, 2024, at the age of 71. Dianne was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. Dianne was born on May 29, 1952, in Norfolk, Virginia to the late James Cowell and Mary E. Davis Cowell. As the oldest of three girls, she was a free spirit with an overwhelming amount of humor, sass, and grit. Dianne married her high school sweetheart Glenn Pope until his death. Dianne soon became a single mother of five children but with the help of the Lord and a strong village, she had a hand in raising the next generation of world changers.
Dianne had a great career journey working in a slew of hotels in the capacity of front desk manager, and accountant. She also worked in Norfolk Public Schools as a food service worker. Dianne’s love of numbers afforded her a position at H&R Block, obtaining the position as a tax preparer. This position inspired her to seek a higher education and the springboard to her future endeavors.
After many years, that same grit inspired Dianne to go back to school obtaining an associate degree in Accounting from Tidewater Community College at the grand age of 64. She then went on to pursue a bachelor’s degree at Old Dominion University in Business Administration specializing in accounting. Dianne was a lover of music and served in a major capacity at her beloved church Oakwood Chapel Church of Christ (DOC). Her love of music granted her the position of choir president which granted her opportunities to sing in community choirs as well. You can hear her belt, a strong soprano from anywhere. Dianne had a great love for good food, great times, and most importantly… BINGO!
Dianne leaves to cherish her precious memories five children: Tremayne, Germanic, Swanica (Miranda), Giletta, and Shawn; eight grandchildren: Javon, Niaya, Jason, Marionna, Mia, Shanta, Montrielle, and bonus grandchild Trinidy; two great grandchildren: Ja’Lyla and Kinsley; and two sisters: Wanda, and Claudia; two nephews, one niece, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other loving relatives and friends whom had the amazing opportunity to know this remarkable woman.

May 11, 2024 at 2:14 pmTo the Family of
Dianne E. Pope
My heart was heavy when I was told about her passing. We sung at Oakwood Chapel & at MGMBC for different revivals, workshops & some Sunday services. She would never forget to say hello to my mother. She pressed her way even when she didn’t feel like it. She would always call me Nell. We had a lot of fun at different cookouts. Dianne you fought to the end so now take your rest in heaven.
Weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning. Psalm30:5

May 16, 2024 at 4:19 pmTo be completely honest, I still can’t believe I’m leaving these words here. Diane was a guiding light, a warm shoulder, a confidant, and the best friend you didn’t know you needed sometimes all wrapped in one. She always knew how to get me out a funk when I just couldn’t find a way out. Diane always took the time to really get to know and understand me for ME, nothing less. She could see through my walls, EASY. She had the tendency to do that with me, her “bonus child” as she would say. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure to build an unwavering bond, celebrate in her triumphs, and watch her grow all-the-wiser. My heart aches I couldn’t be there in your final moments, Di, but I know you’re in heaven finally at peace and safe from this worldly pain. I love you, until next time.

May 15, 2024 at 9:59 amTo the Family of Sister Diane Pope,
Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can not heal. i”m praying for your comfort and peace in your time of lost. Blessed are they who mourn for they shall be comforted.
Diane will truly be missed, she was one of a kind. I had a speical name for her and it was Reverend Pope. Whenever she was being sassy, I would call her Rev. Pope, and she and I would laugh so hard. Diane was someone who would be there if you needed her, no matter what the situation would be. She loved Jesus and loved singing for HIm. We Oakwood Chapel Church loved Diane and will miss her. But, we know she’s with Jesus which is so much better, so, take your rest my sister in Christ, you’re singing with the Heavenly choir now. God bless.
