Diane V. Wright was born in Suffolk, Virginia, on August 14, 1953. She was the youngest daughter of 9 children born to the late Frances and the late George Newby. She was affectionately called Sam, Big Red, Diana or as her children liked to call her Mymommie.
Diane passed away on October 11, 2019, peacefully at home with her loving family as per her wishes. Her positive attitude and strong faith in the Bible, sustained her and her family during this difficult time.
On January 30, 1971, she married her life partner Emmitt J. Wright. They moved to Queens, NY where they raised three children who will miss her dearly.
Diane graduated from Suffolk High School. After moving to NY, she began working at Bulova Watch Company. She held various supervisory roles for 35 years until she retired early in 2009.
Music was her favorite art form. She joined the chorus and under the strict direction of her instructor, she learned to master her craft. She won local talent shows throughout the 1970’s and performed professionally at weddings and other events.
Diane studied the bible and developed a strong love for Jehovah God. To confirm her dedication, she was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness in 1978. Regularly engaging in the field ministry is where she found the most fulfillment and contentment. She truly enjoyed sharing bible teachings to everyone that she could.
She was an amazing cook. She loved entertaining and would often host her extended family from both the East Elmhurst and Churchland Congregations for dinner gatherings.
Those who knew her appreciated her genuine concern, generosity, and respect she had for others. She was kind and selfless beyond measure. Diane was truly a beautiful person inside and out and will be sorely missed.
Diane leaves to cherish her loving memories: her husband Emmitt; her children Travis, Sharon and Perrin; grandchildren, D’Andre, Danielle, Travis, Perrin and Samaya; siblings Shirley (Russell), Darlene, Calvin (Wanda), George; sister in law Kathleen; brother in laws Willie Jr., Willie Scott and a host of nieces, nephews, extended spiritual family and beloved friends.
