Remembering the Legacy of Diane P. Mitchell

Diane P. Mitchell was born January 17, 1950, in Pasquotank County, NC. to Pearl James Jackson (deceased) and was reared by her Uncle Andrew James (deceased). After a lengthy battle Diane was called to glory on January 6, 2022.

She was a proud graduate of I.C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth, VA.  She met the love of her life and current husband Robert Lee Mitchell and was joined in holy matrimony in 2005.

Diane devoted her life to helping and serving others.  She was a foster parent for over 15 years and a mother/grandmother to everyone she met.  She worked as a team leader for Southeastern Virginia Training Center for over 30 years where she trained direct support staff to work with individuals with mental and intellectual disabilities.

Diane was a strong Christian woman who devoted her life to Christ at an early age.  She was a partner at Mount Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church where she served under the leadership of the presiding prelate Bishop Kim W. Brown on the Greeter’s Ministry. Her favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding”.

Diane is preceded in death by her brothers Earl C. Jackson and Izelle Jackson.  She leaves to continue her legacy 5 children Darryl Powell (Suprenia), Kenneth Powell, Curtis Powell (Lenora), Jorge Mitchell, and Ashley Gregory.  To cherish her memory, she leaves 3 brothers Johnnie Lee Jackson (Mary), Lemar Jackson and William James (Willimina), one Uncle Cecil James and a host of stepchildren, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Lovingly Submitted,

The Family
