On Monday, March 11, 2024 our beloved Deshawn Donté Edwards was escorted by an Angel to his Heavenly Home.
Deshawn was born, October 13, 1985 to Van T. Edwards, Sr. and Sherrie Edwards of Portsmouth, VA. He was the youngest of four children to this union.
He was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System, where he graduated from Churchland High School in 2006, where he also achieved “athlete of the year.”
Deshawn attended Shaw University for a year, then St Paul University, where he played football for two years. Deshawn excelled in football and basketball; where he made and broke records. Deshawn loved his family, coaching and his extended Arbour Reach Apartments family. He loved coaching for Parks and Recreation and coached with his brother, Van as well. Because of his love for the children, he was known as the “community babysitter.”
Deshawn was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Elmer and Deloris Southall, Lester Whitely, Sr.; fraternal grandparents, Lubbie and Ruth Edwards; godmother, Margaret Quinerly; and god sister, Linda Quinerly.
Deshawn leaves to cherish his memories, his sister, DaKita Bullock (Gary), Van T. Edwards, Jr. (Kelly), Darrius Edwards (Donica); two nephews, Jadiel and Jamil Edwards; one niece, Darica Edwards; two great nephews, J’amun Williams Edwards and J’ahlil Williams Edwards; four god sisters, Sharon Grey (Willie), Maria, Donna and Lois Quinerly; friend Kala Mitchell, three bonus children, Jayden, Jordan and Jalyah Mitchell. Deshawn also leaves to cherish his memories, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
We will all miss Deshawn and his favorite saying, “Let me hold $2.00.”
